I grew up at a gas station. The office was in the front of the house, connected but only accessible from in the driveway by the pumps. The service station was right next to the house. I had to pump gas every time the buzzer went off while I was doing homework. I've always had an affinity to gas stations, especially the old ones and have always wanted to live in one or have a house built to look like one. This place is very cool, and on route 66 to boot. Awesome

I remember walking home with an empty gas can because there was NO WAY I was going to pay 27 cents for a gallon of gas! That was about 1965. In 1974 I regularly drove between Biloxi MS and Ft. Walton Beach FL. I filled my tank for 25 cents/gallon regularly. That's a pretty stable economy for NINE YEARS. Look what's happened to the dollar since then.

Somewhere between 1955 and 1966 there's a place that had $20,000 in damage that time. In today's money, 💰 they went on to say it would be 400 million dollars 💰🤑💰💰! Say yes sir, what has happened to Dollars that's not worth three cents anymore. When I was a kid I remember my mom saying I'm not going to spend 75 cents for a Big Mac.

WOW!!! Nice!!! Brings back a flood of memories traveling along these hot, dusty, lonely, roads in the late 50's to late 60's on our way to/from a vacation spot. Mom, dad, and three kids travelling in a pickup camper or a station wagon/Shasta trailer, none with an air conditioner of course. We would pull into one of these little towns having a string of buildings on both sides of the road. Couple of gas stations, several motels, 3-4 bars, and a mom-n-pop convivence store. Days liked to stop somewhere by about 7:00 PM as he didnt like being on the road after dark. Seems there was always a spot available to park an RV with water and electricity. Dad would check the vehicles, mom would start dinner, us kids would run around jumping over fences and walls oblivious to faded, rusty, bullet ridden keep out and no trespassing signs. Hot???? Absolutely! Sometimes we sought temporary refuge in the convivence store taking our time buying something. When the sun started going down dad would break out the lawn chairs and we'd chat about our next leg of our journey or with another RV traveler next door. Night time was a huge relief from the heat. Often times by morning we would need a blanket or jacket as the desert could get very cold at night. I would absolutely love to relive those days.

I lived in the place you call the the Valintine Station from about 1964 until 1970. The station was called the Great Western. The wide place in the road was named Annadale. The fruit juice place was a lemonade and orangeade stand. The so called Chief’s motel was the Griggs hotel. There was a small gas station and hamburger joint next door. That was Chiefs place. He was the owner of the Great Western in the 50ties. My uncle bought it from him and he move down the street and leased the station and store. Valentine is the Indian reservation town 3 miles east. It was the BIA headquarters. The post office was at that zoo east of Valentine.

This is pretty cool. I prefer Jackson Browne’s version of take it easy. But I have been standing on that corner in Winslow Arizona, that was awesome! Shout out to the guy who may have saved my life that night. I had picked up hitchhikers that would not get out of my car. He told me to wait till he got off work and he would get rid of them. Let’s just say… He did. I spent the night at his house with his wife and five children, they fed me pizza, I slept on the couch and locked the door in the morning when I left. Thank you so much sir. I really do believe you saved my life! If I ever get that way again I’ll make sure to say hi.

I rode right thru there on my bicycle in 2021. I rode from Southern California to Missouri. I took the route from Kingman, thru Peach Springs & back down to Seligman. That Peach Springs loop was nice. Got to see the train pass by the Valentine Indian BIA building as I was riding.

Wow how cool! We are natives from Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, now living in Las Vegas, NV. Thank you very much for sharing the history of your hometown Valentine. I instantly related to the pogo stick, lawn mower and the tire jack lol. That was my years of growing up on the island. lol Brought back lots of memories. Definitely have your place on our bucket list, we will be doing a road trip soon. Gonna check out the links you have posted. Thank you again! Aloha!

Back in the mid-50's we would visit my grandfather's gas station/country store off route 66 just outside of Shamrock Tx. It had two Mobile gas pumps. The front of the store had a bench on either side of the entrance, one with a Dr. Pepper logo and the other an unfiltered Camel cigarette logo. Inside had the usual stuff for back then, and the house was attached to the back of the store. There was a small outbuilding serving as rural postal service, and there was a barn in the back. God I loved visiting there. Enjoy your slice of heaven!

What a cool channel! You just came across my feed, and I enjoyed every second of this video with a smile on my face! How I wish my dad was still alive to enjoy it as well - he was a ‘car guy’ and would have been a huge fan. I grew up going to the North Shore Old Car Club events with my family in my dad’s old cars that he would fix up and it was always a fun time. I had to laugh when you rang your driveway bell, you reminded me of when my childhood friends and I would jump on the bell of our neighborhood Mobil station. We would jump up and down on it until the attendants would chase us away 😂 ❤😊

I remember when that station was open when I was driving Route 66 as an over the road Trucker hauling Swinging Beef from Liberal Kansas to The City of Industry, Ca. There used to be a Waitress Linda that worked where we Truckers loved to eat and I wanted to Marry her, But She was at that time dating her boss. I guess that was one way to have a job there as well as the Boss not have to pay big wages.

You know what, I could live like this. I'm a gearhead, love automotive history, this part of Route 66. I'm kinda a recluse and introvert. Prefer minimal people, but maximum element of such an environment. And all of this, as a residence in a vintage gas station! No idiot neighbors, no rent and landlord bullcrap, no HOAs. Just me and all shown in this video. That 76 Station? Also was a post office, I could send and receive my mail all at once, lol. I'll buy it and turn it into my residence! I'll buy all the cars and trucks too. The garages? I'll reopen and use em!
