The Scranton Army Ammunition Plant is one of only two sites in the U.S. that can make 155 mm artillery shells.
Many of the shells used by the Ukrainian army against Russian forces are made in Scranton.
The U.S. Army makes 155 mm artillery shells at Scranton Army Ammunition Plant in Pennsylvania as well as a General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems facility nearby in Wilkes Barre with currently producing 28,000 rounds a month. The shells are then transported to the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, where they are filled with explosives and sealed.

When flying tru the air !make 2 weak parts flying of, just after leaving the barrel puzzels me ! And the shell rigth balanced should go much further !

In a book about munition manufacturing during the Cold War 1946-1989 it was mentioned that in 1956 due to automation processes in a single company during a single shift 26 technicians were producing 15,000 shells 155mm, roughly the same shells as today. And 11 people were producing fuses for these shells. I'm sure there are more phases than producing a shell and a fuse. Propellant, explosives , painting job you name it. Perhaps more than 37 people were needed to produce in two (2!) days in a single company what is now the whole country producing in a month and is "accelerating" during the last two years. But the question is How much more people were needed 70 years ago to produce what the whole country weirdly is proud of today? Whose fault is that we can't repeat what was possible during WW1? I will remind 50 million shells were produced from scratch in a one year. No plants existed. They were built in 1917 Up to 254mm (10 inch) caliber shells. No automation in WW1 times, not Google or Whatsap, no computers. No trucks. Need a hole? Take a shovel! Manual labor. In WW1 the cost was 2.3 billion (60 billion in today's money).

@@dernadaarmando2948 I don't know the precise answer. But quick search on Google for contracts show 2000 USD vs 3300 EUR for 105mm and 155mm in 2022 and 2023 correspondently. I'm sure there is a way to measure more accurately. contracts sh9ould be for the same country and about the same time.
