The Odeon Cinema at the Stack Leisure Park in Lochee, Dundee, first opened its doors in 1993 and was a treasured site for many. Unfortunately, it closed its doors in 2001. Here is the site 21 years later...
I understand the video quality is not great, but my initial intention was to capture photo's and not hight quality video footage. I wanted to share it as a memory for local folk and anyone who was interested.
Here's an excerpt from Dundee Culture explaining more about the area:
"The former cinema was part of an urban regeneration program called the Stack Complex, this replaced a part of Lochee which was dominated by the former Camperdown Works jute mill - at one time the largest in the world.
The jute mill was turned into housing, and the Cox's Stack was the centre point of the complex as it could be seen from almost any point in the city!"
The abandoned cinema has now since been demolished and a Home Bargains will soon be in its place. Once in a lifetime opportunity.

This brought memories flooding back. I grew up between Dundee & Perth, although moved away from the area many years ago. I used to visit this Odeon frequently. I remember seeing at the time of release Jurassic Park, Apollo 13, Toy Story, Lion King, Twister, Men In Black and many others at this cinema.

Very cool, I honestly didn't know The Little Vampire was a theatrical film. That's too bad no one tried to restore the theater over the years.

That’s exactly what happened. They built a bigger Odeon cinema at Douglasfield but it’s not around the corner, it’s basically on the other side of the city.

It closed because the nearby Cineworld opened in 2000 - too close for comfort. So they uprooted and built at Douglasfield. It's a pity they didn't build in the much needed city centre.

I used to go to this Odeon cinema when it was first opened, it was a fantastic place. Just why does every abandoned building in Dundee have to get vandalised and destroyed by locals. Such a shame to see the insides just smashed up and everything left lying around the place. But now this whole cinema is now demolished and another Home Bargains shopping centre is built in its place .. like Dundee needs another shopping centre. !!!!

I'm not entirely sure, but since there was a lot of kids going in and out of the place, my guess is that they were possibly stolen and stored there, out-of-sight.

I'm afraid the building no longer exists. It was demolished last year.
