I was Shocked to realize this is the same hotel I visited in December 2011. You said it went bankrupt in 2012, so it's possible. I saw it in your previous Sakurajima-video, but I just couldn't believe that it went out of business and fell into disrepair so fast. Shocking! And very sad to me. This place and the seaside Onsen that was actually a Shrine at the same time so you had to wear robes in the Onsen (to respect the spirits I guess), is one of the most magical and special places I ever visited in Japan. Wish I could send you some photos. Wanted to go back there. Actually visited Sakurajima in 2015 and was trying to go back there but we failed to get transportation. This might be the reason why, because the people knew it was shut down.
@christianbjerknes2 жыл бұрын
It was first when the drone footage showed the Onsen area by the sea I could determine that this was in fact the same place. Just can't believe that a place can deteriorate and fall into disrepair so fast. It's only ten years since I visited there. So strange.
@slothsliketohang2 жыл бұрын
Is this Furusato Kanko hotel? We were here there in 2009 for part of our honeymoon trip. The bath by the sea was amazing. I heard they went bankrupt years ago. This is sad to watch. 😢

Hi! Yes I believe that was the name. It was a very unique onsen hotel. Sad to see it in such a state.

Having worked a number of years at a beach front business that only operates half the year, I am not surprised at the quick decay of this place. The ocean breeze carries salt water, which quickly rusts metal, causes wood to swell, Stucco to crack exc exc. Most interior construction and furniture aren't made to withstand direct exposure to the environment so floorboards will much more quickly rot.
@emiliyanaleksandrov25282 жыл бұрын
Glad that you returned to the Abandoned Hotel. PS love the new camera angles that you put on high places to show us the scale of the place when you explore it. But it also kind of the good creepy as if someone is watching you from far away :D

I love abandoned spaces. There's nothing like this in the video where I'm from, but there are hundreds of abandoned towns from the 1800s where I live, most of which were mining towns of some sort. Walking through them is like walking through history and since few people ever give them a second thought, those who do explore them do so alone unless they brought others with them. The isolation of both being alone and being in a place that is abandoned creates an extremely surreal experience which is simply euphoric in the most bizarre way. One of the reasons I want to go to Japan is because there are incredible opportunities to explore abandoned places like this here. Absolutely beautiful.

I was watching a lot of travel videos during the pandemic. Mark Wiens, Strictly Dumpling, etc. But I'm a little worried that the new generations of tourism are focusing more on what the views will look on their IG or Tiktok content. And not get fully immersed in the culture, people, and beauty of a place.

Can't believe how much effort you always put into these types of videos, it seems like so much work filming on your own out there. Appreciate the additional camera POVs. What I always wondered was - do you ever get spooked exploring these places by yourself? Feel like I could never be brave enough myself!
@fnorazril2 жыл бұрын
The exploration of abandoned sites you do are always some of my favorites. I love witnessing the reclamation of nature back from human occupation. The active decay and juxtaposition of hard lines and drab colors offset by the teeming chaos of nature let loose. Not to mention the contrast of dark and light. Gives plenty of opportunities for some great shots. On top of that your narrative is always worth listening to. Nothing disparaging or negative, just wonder and pleasure of exploring. I like the CCTV cuts, nice little touch that lends itself toward the creepy and somewhat surreal. Plays up the feeling of being watched I get sometimes when I explore some of the old steel mills and abandoned coal towns where I'm from.

I always find it crazy, seeing vehicles zip by so close to a vacant building with this much decay. I can’t believe this level of gutting and decay for just 10 years of neglect. Thank you for capturing all of this - I don’t see a way I’d get out there and see any of the abandoned properties or villages you’ve walked through. It’s been neat watching your videos - it sort of helps the COVID-era wanderlust for sure!

Places like these are beautiful, creepy and sad at the same time. It's fascinating to think about all the things that might have happened there, all the memories such a place holds. But also incredibly sad that such a once beautiful place has been completely abandoned, slowly being reclaimed by nature.

I remember walking in an old abandoned Soviet hospital in my hometown. It's been abandoned for around 15 years. Love the abandoned building videos. Quite surprised on a couple of points. Firstly how stripped it is, seems to be mostly nearly a concrete shell whereas a lot of abandoned building tend to still have furnishings etc present.
