Over the course of many months, we've gotten to know one of the most interesting communities on the internet - one focussed on large-scale global corruption, an opportunity for immense wealth, and the importance of one man...
While some of its members believe they could change the world, critics view them as a cult, damaging not only their own lives but those of their families and loved ones.
At the centre of it all? One unremarkable retail store.
In our most ambitious project yet, I've spoken to participants, critics, and experts in an attempt to answer one question: what is going on with GameStop?

@@FeathersMcGraw420 It's gotta be a combination of things at this point. You heard what he said - he spends at least 20 hours a week on 'researching' and talking about Gamestop - this is a grown adult with a family. Most husband/fathers couldn't afford to spend 20 hours on a week on a real hobby, let alone pissing it away on investing in and obsessing about a fucking dying retail store(the actual core business of Gamestop is dying, regardless of their operations to raise money by selling shares). It'd be different if he had anything to show for this that his family could look at and be proud of, but he doesn't. I wouldn't discard the possibility that these investors were screwed by big powerful people. I don't understand anything about stock market except that it is a casino for very powerful people to play, make money without working and play around with our lives, making fictitious value. And they saw they were actually being screwed, that some "kids" were trying to sabotage their game so they fucked them up. They call the shots. Not "kids". There is no logic at all in one app suddenly shutting down a "buy" button for a specific company. And the rest of the story has a lot of traits of classic propaganda war: assassination of character, calling investors "conspiracy lunatics" and mocking them and adding a target, the god of lunacy, in this case a guy called Cohen.. The arrogance of that woman "Hanna" is so typical of propaganda assets. By calling them dumb, crazy, blind, engaging in cults and dangerous craziness, and blocking their easy access to buying, the very powerful people stopped the movement.
@lancetheradioactive9034
@lancetheradioactive9034 2 күн бұрын
I mean, there is a very easy logic in that shutdown. (Also, it wasn't one app, see testimony like half a dozen comments up) The logic is as follows: you have accounts that can operate on your money while their money is being processed by the system. You also have a limited reserve of that money. Problem: Those accounts suddenly flood, en masse, into a stock at $100-$200, expecting it to go "to the moon". Your limited reserve is all of a sudden very drained, and so the rampant run on that stock is putting all other operations in danger. Solution: temporarily disable the buying of the problematic stock and desperately try (and somewhat fail) to cover up the liquidity crunch. Simple as.
@XanthinZarda
@XanthinZarda Күн бұрын
Here's the thing: A lot of the simians were right for the wrong reasons. Yes, there is corruption in the system, but investing in an irrelevant game pawn shop wasn't the solution. Yes, the buy button was turned off, but there was no foul play. It was called, "Your dumb brokerage might run out of money if you clowns keep up." or "The entire market might freeze if you clowns keep this up". Yes, Gamestop is debt free, but how did they reach that point? Though slashing employee benefits like tyres and closing stores like there's no tomorrow. Bad for long term plans, that.

My advice: for newbies to grow financially this year, invest. Saving is good, but investing elevates your finances. Why newbie make huge losses on trade is because investing without proper guidance can lead to mistakes and losses. that will stop you from trading, this has been one of the biggest problem to new traders, I've learned this from my own experience.

@@Zolet_lionheart I heard a story how it really came to be. WSB gamblers and the newcomers who eventually splintered into superstonk used to call themselves r-words and they developed an insular culture of extreme recklessness spiced up with very incendiary, self deprecating language. At some point those communities had grown too much too fast and it has become somewhat apparent that using such offensive words was no longer politically viable (and I also heard that was because reddit which was preparing for public offering wanted their more popular communities to be less toxic, and ease up on the slurs optically speaking but idk how true it is) but the language changed over time. Original WSB degens who isolated themselves from the meme stock groups now call themselves "regards" while meme stock cults almost universally switched to "apes" invoking imagery and phrases from planet of the apes like "apes together strong".
