Inside Bakhmut where Ukrainian and Russian fighting continues - BBC Newsnight

The eastern Ukrainian town of Bakhmut has been the site of one of the longest and bloodiest conflicts of the war.
The ferocity and the length of the battle has cost many thousands of lives on both sides so far and left each desperately short of ammunition.
Yet the frontline town in the country's Donbas region is said to be of little strategic value.
So why is the fighting continuing, and what are the consequences of defeat or victory likely to be?

Each family has 5-8 children. In Ukraine you have maybe 1 or 2 children, sometimes none. In Ukraine it’s a sad story. In Arab countries It’s more like a uneducated story.

Of course Ukraine will continue to defend Bakhmut as long as possible, if it falls, other cities less damaged so far are likely to come under attack. It is a strong point along the front, and should not be given up easily. On the other hand, if the flanks cannot be held, a withdrawal is necessary. Only the military commanders know the true situation.

We have some of the best strategists in the world weighing in on the necessity for fighting for Bakhmut and they all have said the town is not important and that the Ukrainians should leave. But the Ukrainians know things we never will about the Russians and about the region because they live there and they see it differently. They know what will happen to the civilians that will be left behind; they know that it will become a second Mariupol. But President Zelensky told us the real reason why Bakhmut must stay in Ukrainian hands: it is the gateway to eastern Ukraine.

Because it hasn't. Bakhmut doesn't give Russia nothing in the long term,it's only a part of their Donbass puzzle so if they want the Donbass they need to capture it. It''s a really good position to inflict as much damage as possible thought,since Bakhmut is in the low-lands while Chasiv-Yar,a town right next to it,is on high ground. This is why Vuhledar is such a problem for russians for example

Russian troops have been trying to capture this city for 7 months ... how many resources, lives and forces spent on this! the battle for Bakhmut will go down in history as the most unfortunate move of the Russians. They've been protecting this city for many months now, it's formidable. They deserve not only our respect, but our support too. My opinion is more russki troops and equipment Ukraine destroys in Bakhmut less resistance there is going to be in counter attack, city by itself has been destroyed already, it may come with additional losses of life but how russkies are approaching trying to encirkcle Bakhmut their front is getting narrower and will be easier to destroy, i think it is good approach for Ukranians to lay ton of mines on front of approaching russkies, maybe cut the front off in the right place, patience is a virtue they say and it can be very good for war strategy too, why let russkies advance to the next town and let them destroy and kill more civilians, take out as many off them you can when you have an opportunity, its good that media and so called experts downplay importance of holding Bachmut, i would leave stratistikc moves to Ukranians. If Wagner men can stand in front of a very recognizable monument and talk trash, that means there are no Ukrainian troops within a 700 meter circle around them. US Military sniper train to 900 meters and low end is about 400 meters, so figure a really good Ukrainian sniper should be accurate out to 700 meters. You can become homeless for many reasons including flood, fire, earthquakes and world epidemics. You can also become homeless because the company you work for moves to another state. Once you become homeless you have to fend for yourself against drug dealers, murderers, and bullies. In some states you get criminalized for homelessness (Tennessee and New York) and can be sent to a mental hospital or prison for committing a Homeless felony (homeless camping). Homeless people are also tortured beyond belief. The law denies them sleep and the human right to empty their bowels which is not under human control. Over time it results in the worst self-esteem problems you can imagine. Your body and feelings start blaming who you are for living and smelling like human waste. The Constitution does not protect homeless people against the ills of society, greed can go free homelessness cannot. To be hated in the law when you have done nothing wrong not only kills God it is a psychological tombstone that destroys natural feelings with mother nature. Dying without hope and being tortured while alive is what makes homelessness the heroes of our time. Homeless people are the true victims of a society that puts money over God. Even in slavery people will take care of their possessions. Nobody owns homelessness except for a belief system that says people can go expendable believing that greed is good and should stay protected at all costs. Even churches are in on the act buying airplanes with the money they make selling the spirit of Jesus. PS. I don't care what anybody says, I think our system of checks and balances (norms and mores) has gone queer in Mother Nature's Spirit living a life that is over $300 trillion in debt. Astronomers have determined that our universe is only 13.7 billion years old. Today reality is being held hostage by a handful of people who have already accepted a queerness in their thinking….The megarich are now claiming they own the money to the world because they have more of it. Their logic is $300 trillion in debt.
