With all the times I have been back home. I honestly never knew that my hometown had it's own fire department. I always thought it was just the Volunteer fire departments that took care of business. The best thing I remember were the fire carnivals in both Espy and Lime Ridge. Great memories from my childhood.

Nice to see this highlight of my Hometown. Back in the Early 90's when they were all distributed companies I would service some of the two-way radios for the units and the two-tone pagers. I was also involved with the new comm center when it was being developed. I have a soft spot for the no-longer Fernville fire company as I lived right down the street. Not sure what actually caused its demise but it was a hard station to keep running it seemed. My residence required the fire services twice in the late 80's when i was growing up and the response was spot on and saved our house and business at the time. Great content!!

It’s quickly approaching the time where a lot of volly companies think about consolidation. Low manpower and duplication of equipment in a close area no need to have so many companies in close proximity. Before anyone gets there panties in a bunch I’m talking about multiple companies within a close area.

Awesome! Hi FF BORRELLO! This was another great SC Episode! The show has grown so much in such a short time. I am hooked on these now. That last piece (the 1938) is almost the exact same thing as Nashua Fire Rescue's piece. I believe Nashua's might be a 1937. But Nashua's is the old Engine 4, that piece is only used for parades nowadays. I think you're going to love NFR. I can't wait for you to arrive up here to finally see for yourself. Great pieces and a GREAT DEPARTMENT!

Interesting Station... Been past it many times in my life... I am a vollie from Juniata County and Otr Driver in my lifes work... But I always wondered how Bloomsburg was set up... I actually had one of there members in class with me last month at the PA Fire Academy...You should go to the Academy and see how it is laid out like a station and show the facility is laid out and really close to being set up for burns and put us into department like emergencies...

Do volunteer fire departments in the US get any local or state government funding? That van was older than a couple of retired units we have in our ambulance museum. If ever you're in Australia I'd gladly give you a tour of our ambulance service stations and control centre.
@Zachattackisrad3 жыл бұрын
Yes we do get funding from local and state government. Some old apparatus just don't replace it unless it's needed. Other places replace on a specific year basis like 10 year, 15 year and so on. Some are just kept since they function well and have some history
@thisissparta7897893 жыл бұрын
We primarily get local funding, though we also get some state and federal funds through grants. Unlike in Australia, we don’t have statewide fire services like the NSW RFS or FRNSW. All firefighting is organized on the local level.
@hihfty3 жыл бұрын
There are so many different ways fire departments are funded in the US its mind boggling. But there seems to be extreme inefficiencies in this particular station. Having 9 pieces of apparatus and only doing about 250 calls is insane and the maintenance budget must be astronomical. The volunteer system in certain areas of the country some times has a mind of its own. Most of these companies only exist because they're old and steeped in history. Not because they are needed or justified.
@coover653 жыл бұрын
@@hihfty I must admit I am amazed at the number of volunteer FDs in the US, and seeing such departments in what we'd consider in Australia "outer suburbs of a larger town". We also have volunteer fire crews, mainly attached to bush fire brigades. In most towns with a population of about 10k or more you'll find professional firefighters with a fleet of two or three trucks or more depending on demand. I really take my hat off to those who volunteer their time to provide fire fighting services.

Fire company and fire department are interchangeable when talking
@jaysmith14083 жыл бұрын
Technically fire departments are wings of the borough, township, town, county, what have you. Fire companies are private, companies, that serve at the municipality’s leisure, through contract. That hardly holds up in common usage however, given that our company is the town fire department, though a separate non profit company, is overseen by our borough.
