What grabs my attention is the dozens of electrical connections running across or along the walkways. I've already seen a few videos of other favelas but this is probably the closest contact to the real people thing I've seen. A great video.

This favela is called "Rocinha" and it's not dangerous. It has a bad reputation because it's very large, but as you can see, people from all over the world can move around normally and nothing will happen (foreign friends, favelas are not always just about poverty and lack of security).
@Jopsksprdvakf29 күн бұрын
Nah I live in Downtown Oakland as an Asian and it's been pretty safe so far. You just have to refuse to talk to anybody and head home quick 🤣

Rocinha is far from the most dangerous favela of RJ, because the movie operator is stil alive 😅. The dangerous ones around the world are Chapadão, Juramento, Maré, from RJ, and London, Paris, Roma and New York City, between some 😂😂

The most famous, but not the most dangerous. This is one tourists go (Vidigal too). Sometimes they are gang free, but mostly they do have active gangs which have a tacit agreement with tour guides and tourists: if you don't go to the actual places we deal drugs, you are free to go to certain places in the favela. In the most dangerous favelas, you cannot go inside it without being known by the gangs. People get killed because they took the wrong turn and ended up in a favela.

Exactly. Favelas are increasingly mixed neighbourhoods. I always visit and stay in favelas when in Rio. Not sure if I look rich, but definitely look Caucasian. No one has batted an eyelid about my presence in any favela, as far as I can tell. It is only when you start to talk to people.

@@Brazil144hopeful My people? I would argue that the Brazilians created this, rather than anyone from my neck of the woods. I don't think pride on my part has anything to do with it either. If anything, I am envious of the pride the favelados tend to have for their communities. Totally unlike the folks from the asphalto who seem embarrassed to be Brazilian.
