As someone who grew up watching Kate Winslet get bullied about her size in almost every interview she did, I find it amazing in the best way possible that Nicola was never asked about her size, nor was she forced to defend being a plus-sized character who gets to be the heroine of a romance. She was treated like any other woman, and that's really refreshing.

People will support the show; but this will NOT be the best season. The interviewer is being “nice” but he’s indirectly asking about her weight when he asks why she never saw herself as a “love interest”. She’s never been cast that way for a reason. 😢 It’s hard to go from being cast as the funny, annoying, smart but overweight sidekick to carrying the show the desired “love interest”. There is NO chemistry & she comes off uncomfortable 😣

having now seen the season, i disagree with that a lot. i didn’t doubt the chemistry and i definitely thought she was incredibly beautiful in a way that i’m not used to seeing on screen. if anything, i have complaints about writing & pacing choices, but definitely not about her or luke newton’s performances. penelope is an anxious young woman coming to own herself as she is - isnt that a totally important type of love story? we’ve had hundreds about suave sultry superstars, but her type always gets relegated to rom-coms and i think that it’s high time for a proper romance
