The first time I went to Ottawa I went up the tower and it was amazing. Being from BC it still freaks me out that there are no mountains!

This was SO COOL. I spent 10yrs working on The Hill. Most of that time was in an MP's office & being a history buff & a snoop I took full advantage of my Security Pass & explored all of the Parliament Bldgs, all the nooks & crannies but ... I never got up into the very top of the Peace Tower. And, now I have, thanks to your vid. I'm also a flag fan so I was ... envy, envy, envy ... the whole time. Great story, Michael. (During my time in the MP's office only once did a constituent get to receive a Peace Tower flag. I well remember the flag coming into our office, doing the unfolding & being amazed at the immense size of the thing. And, the thrill of holding a flag that had actually been flying from the Peace Tower. Thanks for reminding me of all of this !!)

...didn't realize there was a part 1 to this (LOL!) Excellent views from the top, but got a little dizzy (afraid of heights). The behind the scenes are something else. Thanks again Mike!

I'm proud to say that I have been up there too!! My friend was a maintenance manager there just over a decade ago and he took me for a tour! Most unique and amazing experience I've had. It's cool to look up and say - hey! I've been there :)

I’ve been up there in 1984, up to the public observation deck which was opened the year before and sits below the clock faces. Gordon Slater the Dominion Carillonneur performed on the 53 bells daily as does his successor Andrea McReady.

As someone who grew up in Ottawa, it's always been a dream of mine to be on top of Parliament Hill, so this video is quite amazing, getting to see what downtown looks like from up there

According to PSPC, the waiting period for both Peace Tower and other Parliament Hill flags exceeds 100 years

When a flag flies at half-mast, it may be offered to the family of the person being honored. For example, when former Alberta Premier Peter Lougheed died in September 2012, the flag that flew on the day of his funeral was eventually presented to his widow Jeanne.

I put my name on the waiting list for one of these flags back in 2007 and after 12 years, I got the flag that flew a month after this video was posted. The flag that I have was likely one of the ones in that cabinet
