A collaboration of Mark Mothersbaugh and Thomas Dolby would be an awesome album.

I love rock. I was there in '77 for punk, but Devo was bent out of left field. Love these guys. My disturbed brothers. I was able to take my daughter to a concert that they gave for NXNW at Yonge Dundas Square and I couldn't believe how great they sounded. If Kraftwerk took LSD, they would be Devo.

As I understand it, he sampled the sounds from his Dulcitone into a Fairlight CMI to record the theme for the "Rugrats" TV show.

Way cool. I love how he has traditional and circuit bent and doesn't differentiate between the two that much.

Joe Serrano I wasn't friends with them but I did know some of them, yes. The Casales and Mothersbaugh. My college friend and coworker Cynthia Penter had been in art classes with one or more of them (I don't recall who it was). They'd been playing on and around the Kent State University campus for some years already by then. In my SCRAPBOOK clip not too long ago, I show and read from their first "zine," just a legal-sized mimeographed sheet of paper with some strange images on it, including a jar of Miracle Whip. I did know a guy who was in the famous JOCKO HOMO movie, as a doctor pounding his fists in a campus lecture theatre so long his digital watch read nonsense numbers permanently, and of course I remember that inane SHINE ON, AMERICA! mural in Akron in 1976 -- the country's bicentennial year (as far as I can tell, that was the tipping point for the downward spiral of the USA). When JOCKO HOMO came out as a 45, I went to see them play one afternoon in a basement room at the Akron Museum of Art, in a brightly lit room with folding chairs, and I bought the 45 on the spot, and Mothersbaugh signed it, "LISA, WANT TO MAKE IT?" and I was delighted, and THEN he started apologizing, saying that was a terrible thing to write!! I said, "No, no, I think it's great!!" They played at Joe Bujack's bar downtown on Water Street, JB'S DOWN, and by the time Mothersbaugh brought up his wife (I don't know if that was his wife or not, may have been), dressed in an ugly white prom night palazzo pants ensemble, playing a tambourine (she was introduced as, "This 16-year old girl ... ") the audience was confused and quiet, with their 3.2 pitchers of light beer (no hard liquor in Ohio 'til you were 21 those days) and by the time Devo did PRAYING HANDS, with those absurd gestures, I was in stitches and the place was full of gaping, astonished faces. I thought, "Oh, well, I'll never see THIS group for cheap live again! They're DESTINED FOR GREATNESS!!" Soon thereafter, in NYC where I'd resettled, I heard their cover of SATISFACTION and said to a roomie, Jonathan Quinn, or he said to me, I forget, "Listen to that! They left out the famous Keith Richards guitar hook!!!!! This is SO COOL!" I couldn't even keep up with buying their records. They were like the B-52s, who I knew much better, actually, from Georgia (I still have Kate's address there at the time -- she gave it to me -- they loved BIKINI GIRL). I was able to see them for maybe a year ... and get their first 45, ROCK LOBSTER and 52 WOMEN and have them all sign it, and I went to a party Fred did with Ann Park, at the Mudd Club (photos are in BIKINI GIRL) and then they were HUGE! I even went to Cleveland, Ohio where I'm from to see them! I took lots of photos. They laughed and said, "Lisa, what are YOU doing here?!" (I was visiting my vile family.) DEVO were beyond brilliant. They were really brave, and I am sorry they got so abused and ripped off!

CAN somebody tell me why Mark Mothersbaugh is credited as composer for The Last Man on Earth? I mean, I've really wanted info on the music from that TV show, but not once during the show did I hear any music even remotely similar to Mothersbaugh sound effect machines.
@carmensandiego7749 Жыл бұрын
Because I think that I have heard him say that he scored that. Probably why he's credited.
