A wonderful look at another historic British family home. I think a large part of what makes your videos so special is your connection to the lives of these families trying to preserve a part of history. On a side note - watching a video a few days ago about a gorgeous New Orleans home and they pointed out a (reproduction) portrait of the Viscountess Hinchingbrook. Didn’t mention which one, but it certainly got my attention! A connection I wouldn’t have had without your channel. 😊

I love your channel looking at our little island that is oozing history from an outsider's eyes. I was wondering whether you had ever looked at Luton Hoo in Bedfordshire. From the little I know Queen Elizabeth and Philip spent part of their honeymoon there. The owner at that time was a relative of the Romanovs and they had a fabulous collection of Fabergé items however it then takes a very sad downturn. I thought it's story might interest you and of course the rest of us

I genuinely enjoyed this. As an American, you know all too well that rich history is not our strong suit, and what little we have is constantly under attack. It's so encouraging to see productions like this in cultures that appreciate their history as well as try to preserve it.
@maddiek1980
@maddiek1980 5 ай бұрын
You have such a disappointing attitude and a poor understanding of ‘rich history’. The ‘constantly under attack’ comment is particularly tone deaf. Hopefully there’s a way for you to educate yourself on the full history of your country so you can understand it in a more honest and nuanced way rather than in a one-eyed way. Do try to be a better person.

Hi Julie - great video , I’m binge watching today … I just finished your tour of Pitchford and talking about lost treasures…… I think I found a lost treasure of Hitchingbrook … I was watching an episode of Homeworthy, the episode in New Orleans , they have a painting they inherited by a interior decorator who bought it in England many many years ago , it’s a portrait of one of the early Countess of Hitchingbrook, she is wearing a yellow dress much like the color of the walls at the Constable house .

Another incredible story Julie ! The post War tragedies of these country houses saddens me immensely! But I have a question that looms over me after watching these episodes. Do these country houses have their own family Cemeteries on the estate? It would seem to me that with ancestors going back hundreds of years there would be cemeteries forming their own parks if you will !

@midnight3944
@midnight3944 4 ай бұрын
Since lady Margaret refused to give up her faith and was angering the queen, her son banned her from certain parts of the house so he could hopefully separate the rest of the family from any consequences her actions might cause. That gallery room was one of the few parts of the house she was still allowed to be in freely.

The one thing that worries me seeing all these wonderful historic places are the roofs. The UK government should set aised funds to help keep the roofs up. As long as they do that everything underneath is at least safe from rotting away.
