Inside Giant Motel Untouched For Years

:Exploring Abandoned Anything can be dangerous or Deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any Abandoned structure. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal and when possible, i seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks & responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. Their could be nails, Asbestos, Falling concrete soft floors, animals or other hazards. I won't mention the location, but I have been there. I spent a rainy night there in 2005. It was over priced, very dated( the TV was straight out of 1985), and there was broken glass on the bathroom floor. But at the same time it was warm, dry, and had a certain retro/nostalgic charm( like a time capsule from the 70s/80s) that makes me glad I stayed there. All the other people staying appeared to be long term residents who had made questionable life choices. The lady who owned it was very nice though and it really is a great location. It is a relic in a sadly depressed area. Really glad to see you explore this place. By coincidence I'll be heading up tomorrow to stay right near there for a couple weeks. Stay safe Buddy! Edit after watching more than 30 seconds of the video: I had a nice chat with the lady who owned the joint when I stayed there. She told me the big space on the left used to be a full service restaurant back in the day with innkeepers quarters upstairs and that she wanted to turn the place into a geothermal powered spa involving yurts, but she was struggling to makes ends meet. I guess the spa didn't pan out. It is a great piece of history and should be restored. Unfortunately it will probably be razed and condos put on the property. I'm glad to see it has held up so well, maybe being in the middle of the town that time forgot has been a good thing.

@@waynevetrone ... what usually happens to places like this is after a failure (or the owner dies) nobody pays the taxes and the town / city puts a lien on the property. Now they are stuck with it and it just sits for decades because the paperwork is complicated and there's usually not a market for it in a depressed economy. They usually don't have the resources to do anything except a tax auction, and quite often nobody shows up to bid so they wait another few years. There are many situations like this in the Poconos (Pa) and Catskills (NY) that are just waiting to fall down.

It's a primal thrill seeking thing - getting to unleash the inner destructive tendencies without serious repercussions is exciting and, for some, cathartic. I do agree that it's still tragic and sad that they have to do it to places like this, though. It's one of those things where the motivation is understandable but still reprehensible at the same time.

Morality is a taught behavior, not a default state; if it weren't, we wouldn't need laws and punishments to corral the tendencies of human nature, nor would we need to teach our children right from wrong. One major aspect of human nature is the desire to destroy things. Whether it's morally right or wrong is subjective to the societal values of the time, and even then it can depend on the context. Destroying a historical house to build a newer one that takes advantage of modern materials and construction techniques that make it safer is seen as morally wrong by historians but morally right by safety inspectors. We can agree that vandalism is morally wrong from our perspective, but in an environment where defacing an abandoned building is considered a rite of passage, it can be seen as morally right.

Burger King keeps their walk in freezer at minus 23 degrees. If you're not working hard and wearing gloves and a jacket it's painful almost immediately.

I've hauled frozen meat in semis, and our contracts for that usually specified that it had to be kept below +35 or +40 degrees. Minus 23 sounds like some accountant deciding that if cold is good, colder is better.

What was once most likely a prime motel has some beauty left. I see potential to be transformed back to a motel or apartments. I'm shocked most of the windows still intact. One local so called youtuber broke in to a local house few months after owner died told the world the location, others followed showing location, then came the vandals smashing up more and spray painting every room, thefts and finally the arsonists. I was going to say, as soon as he saw that pile I heard shang066's ghostly voice in the background saying "gamers's choiiiiiiice." But for reals, if they've been out in the Connecticut weather for a couple years they're probably toast. The weather's not going to be as forgiving to the tube terminals etc. as that shop in Texas where folks pulled a bunch of survivors out of an outdoor pile. Now, a pile of C64s on the other hand, that would fuel about 1,000 hours of youtube resto videos.

Being born in '71, nothing here seems that "old". I stayed at plenty of places that looked just like this. I think the "out" building was likely cheap apartments for staff and the property manager. Loved the video!

There are places everywhere for the homeless. The problem is many of the homeless don’t want to be in a shelter. They don’t want to follow the rules of living with other people in a shelter.

@@SpiritDonkey really? I've been pushed from here to there and ending up in chaos. The stay is limited. The integration of rehab/homeless means you live with actively practicing addicts. Stealing is common. Being treated like dirt by the people who run them. Going through your stuff. It's just humiliation in these homeless shelters. Privacy doesn't exist. This is much more calm and private. There aren't plenty of homeless shelters. They are few and far between. I dont know where you live but here in the heartland there ain't much.

Not all of course, but for every homeless person who wants to earn their place in society, there's more who don't want to. I say this as someone who's actually worked with them. I know a guy in Indianapolis who would offer cash daily to homeless people for help with his landscaping business. He'd provide the transportation and lunches along with $50+ (20 years ago mind you) and dinner for an honest days work. He said at most 1 out of 4 showed any interest, and maybe 1 out of 10 would show up for day 2. Virtually none of the 18-29 year olds wanted anything except a handout. I feel terrible for the ones who were foreclosed on or lost their jobs, but the vast majority of homeless people make no real attempt to better themselves.

I do have sympathy for the homeless. However, the moment you open the property to them for housing, you become liable for injuries and if the roof does start to leak, you are liable for any health hazards that pop up as a result of lack of upkeep. And that upkeep isn't free... In a perfect world, unused and abandoned properties would be a great place for the homeless. But in the real world it never does work out that way.

Well, even when I know he got through it all okay, I still feel uneasy and even creeped out sometimes. I keep thinking that one of these days, he'll disappear and all that will be found will be his camera with some bizarre, mysterious footage, like THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. I'm a lot older than he is and I still wouldn't go where he does, especially late at night! Did you see the one where he returns to this motel in the dead of winter to spend the night alone in one of the rooms? Super creepy! (This place must be within easy driving distance from where he lives.)
