BBC Arabic’s Feras Kilani is the first journalist to travel to Northern Mali's vast and dangerous desert region since French forces ended their military operation in the country a year ago. Fears over the country's future are growing - it relies on Wagner for security but the group's leader is now believed to be dead.

If I were the head of the military, I would build large poles and put cameras on them and monitor the movement in the Zahara 27/7. Evertime I spot the enemy I would send in drones to attack their position.

the desert is so big that it would be impossible to monitor anything you would need a force of 100s of people constantly surveilling the area. the terrorist would propbably constantly break the cameras or they might get dirty from the sand. there's just to many factors that would make this idea unusable
