Inside My September Raised Beds: Sugar Snap Peas & More

While September is a great reminder that all great things must come to an end (Looking at my tomatoes), I can't help but feel like I am not quite ready.
I am still doing small harvest of herbs, cherry tomatoes, peppers and I am highly anticipating the ginger and I cannot wait to see how it does in the raised beds.

We call it alugbati in the Philippines it’s good for mung bean soup yummy, I didn’t grow one this summer but I have a volunteer and now it’s goin wild

We had the same issues with our big boy tomatoes here in Georgia. My cherry tomatoes was plentiful.

Lol, my garden at this time of year always looks wild. I save a lot of seed. My husband thought he was helping pulled my lettuce I was getting close to harvesting seed 🙄. 😂he was quickly escorted through the garden gate😂. Nasturtiums I have been finding the new varieties do not do well here and will go back to original. I threw in some old seed of Amish Cockscombs for winter sow and they all sprouted and was also very happy with the giant combs. I’ve grown the feathery kind before but these are better. And some flowers just need a longer season than I have like Tithonia. Last year I must have started calendula later and they outperformed marigolds, but not this year. The old original marigolds are everywhere from self sowing 😂. It’s very warm in WI for this time of year and we entered drought. It is a toss up to water or not, but some things still need it especially the fruit trees/shrubs. It is tricky about timing for fall planting as we had extreme heat recently. My peas are short and some are producing even though I had shade fabric. About the overspray of chems from neighbors-many years back that’s what happened when a farmer continually sprayed a hayfield over and over. In all my years I’ve never seen hay sprayed that much! It was something nasty because he had to put warning skullbone signs up 😡. I had the state investigate and the day we sold our house the neighbor came over to tell me the state tested their water and there was traces of Lorzban and alachlor in it. It’s too bad these things happen especially when we loved the place we had and it made a huge difference in our life to move.

I'm still jealous of your abundant cilantro! What does cilantro like? I know its not crazy about too much sun or maybe its just the heat it doesn't like? Does it like to be watered often or does cilantro like to dry out? I'm just trying to figure out the sweet spot. Thank you for sharing all the details in your garden.
