@@simonozomma2298 but yet you'd be quick to present Banana Island as the accurate representation of Lagos, right ?
@TopeA85 ай бұрын
@@pietrojenkins6901 More people actually represent Lagos as Makoko than those that represent it as Banana Island. It's not even close. The average neighbourhood in Nigeria looks nothing like Makoko. Makoko is a peculiar neighbourhood, because Lagos is the #1 attractor in the whole of West Africa. More people are pulled there than any other city in West Africa. Makoko is not a representation of Nigeria's poverty, otherwise everywhere in Nigeria would look like that. What it represents is the West African scramble for Lagosian Real Estate. In fact, what a lot of Westerners do not realise is that many of these communities are filled with illegal immigrants (i.e. non Nigerians). Try to go to ANY of these communities, Makoko, Kuramo and tell me you will not hear non Nigerian languages! It IS a misrepresentation of Nigeria. The Nigerian government is just usually relaxed on illegal migration. The average place in South Western Nigeria and perhaps Nigeria as a whole, looks something like Ibadan. Oshodi itself is not so atypical in built form, but very atypical in population density and activity. Foreigners are NOT drawn to Nigeria as it is everyday, they look for the clickbait. It would be like going to Los Angeles and focusing on Skid Row.
@TopeA85 ай бұрын
@@pietrojenkins6901 Another interesting fact is that the geographic area of Eti Osa is far bigger than the underdeveloped areas that foreigners fixate on. So funnily enough, areas like Banana Island ARE actually a bigger land mass than areas like Makoko, Ajengule, Kuramo etc. If Nigeria tightened its borders, we wouldn't have as much population density in those small communities.

Hey Harry, thanks for showing us to the world even though some scenarios were embarrassing. Our people are funny and friendly. But, i like the fact that you're street wise and you didn't really fall prey. You're also funny. Make sure you Explore the fun parts of Nigeria before you return to the UK. Greetings to Olie Watkins 😊. Safe travels back home...

The real Nigeria we know is not what is being portrayed here. Lagos City can not be used to describe the whole country. A lot of bloggers have gone round this beautiful country, and found much more things that are more beautiful and better than the situations you can find in some countries in Europe and the Americas. More crimes are committed in the United States of America on daily basis than you can get in Nigeria. There are more drug addicts and homeless people in the US than you can get in the whole of West Africa. The episode you see in this video is the result of the outwardness of Nigerians towards foreigners. That's just the way of life of the people in this country.

Giving you some insight from the Philippines. The only way you can combat the negative stereotyping is to have tons of Nigerian and other African content creators showcase the beautiful places in your country in English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Hindi, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc and specifically target NON-African viewers. These videos will reach huge markets who will change their opinion of Nigeria and West Africa. When this happens, popular Western vloggers will also have no choice but to show those positive scenes too because many in their audience would have already seen the positive videos made by African vloggers and expect the Western vloggers to follow suit. Content is determined by content. And that’s what worked for us in the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia. Previously Southeast Asia (beyond Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore) had nothing but negative press and poverty porn as the only content type made by Western vloggers. Now it’s quite the opposite because we have strong legions of local Southeast Asian vloggers, and those who are our allies from the wider world making content on our world class beaches, mountain resorts, upmarket areas of cities, huge infrastructural changes, and cultures nearly every day.

@@derbdep There are not a lot of bloggers going there because it is so dangerous and difficult there. Even Mark Weins has not gone there. Nothing like the Philippines at all. Just watching this video for 5 minutes i felt suffocated. Everybody wanting.

Stop being delusional. The USA is safer most of the time. People minding their own business, no hawkers, scammers, thugs or aggressive beggars pestering and harassing you. Certainly no crowded poverty, chaos or corruption. The police is very responsive as well. Of course there are random crimes here and there depending on the demographics of the location and city. You can't it to Nigeria. In Nigeria, bodies will lie in busy streets for over 48 hours without being picked because the police is corrupt and lazy. Add that to Boko Haram terrorism, human trafficking and mass body parts harvesting which goes unreported for years in remote areas

Brave bloke u are Harry. I'm a Nigerian but wldn't feel safe one bit walking amongst that multitude in such an open marketplace. I left 23 yrs ago & will surely stand out like a thumb, though u stood out much more. U did pretty well also despite all the endless requests for money. It's shameful to see all the desperation but that's the reality of the life of a Nigerian today; desperadoes all of them!

this video really shows what people experience in Nigeria and generally in black African countries, the governments are very, very bad, thieves, they do nothing, they enrich themselves with their families, which means that African youth are poor and decides to go to other countries, because there is no future for Africans. whether it's Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Congo, Benin, Cameroon... we all have the same problem. Courage to Africans

Please stop exploiting Nigeria just for views… the caption is very offensive especially when I didn't see anyone rob you or take advantage of you. With all the money you made with this video, you could do more than buy sneakers.

But one thing is fo sure nigeria is not the worst part of The world to live !! It just we all have to survive! The government and the lives they got to fucking! go through!! Like in the philippines😢

Everyone please google the following areas of the UK Violence in Hounslow. Violence in Lewisham. Violence in Greenwich. Violence in Barking & Dagenham. Violence in Newham. Violence in Lambeth. Violence in Tower Hamlets. Violence in Haringey. If the UK have the same level of policing as we have in Nigeria (Thank your creator) no teen will live pass their 20s. So it’s safe to say Lagos is rough, colourful and energetic, but dangerous? Look at all those friendly souls you interacted with, admit it bro, you had fun 😊
