Nice video and good to see that you are working towards another skill set under your belt. One thing I have say though is that your next project should be a wooden mallet to use with your chisels as appose to a nail hammer. Otherwise a great video thank you for the upload.

Hey Great idea! there are possibly numerous shapes to be used in a design of this nature. This is food for thought, hmmmn, ... Thanks for sharing.

I think it's a very clever way to make some very interesting pieces. I've never seen that done before. Glad I came across this video.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZa6ZnyVpdChfrM Here is a good video on how to do this type of work. I recommend checking this out before you try this. Also, don't wear gloves like I did. Big safety fail!

Nice effort. You need to get a roughing gouge what your calling it looks more like a detail gouge. Roughing gouges typically are much broader, around an inch mine are.

This was an early project with a set of very SMALL tools. It is a roughing gouge but it's small and doesn't look like it in this video. I have new tools now! 🙂 Thank"s for the advice. Much appreciated

Thank you Ernesto! I appreciate the encouragement. As you know, it isn't easy but it is a lot of fun! I hope to see some of your work soon

Couldn’t you use double sided tape instead of glue and brown paper? Also a couple wraps of packing tape around the ends would make the process much safer.

you need to use more glue evenly spread, and clamps, u r lucky it didn't fly apart, otherwise nice job
@peacefulwoodturner65476 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips! It was heavily clamped but I didn't show that. I definitely could have gone heavier on the glue

@@peacefulwoodturner6547 I use a half inch wide strip of nylon reinforced tape on each end (Two wraps around) while I spin it to make sure it stays on the lathe...my first attempt flew off and across the shop. Keep at it, you get better with every turn.

You most definitely should invest in a few clamps, you are very fortunate to have not been injured while turning this item. The four pieces weren't glued together tight enough, you could see the gaps in the glue-up. One of these days you might not be so lucky, think before you have an accident.
@peacefulwoodturner65477 жыл бұрын
I didn't include the clamping in the video, but the pieces were well clamped and the glue had PLENTY of time to set. I really appreciate the feedback. What types of clamps would you suggest for this type of project?
@lenmullin32167 жыл бұрын
Personally, for this type of glue-up, I would use any type of clamp that screws tight like c-clamps.

What kind of paper did you use for the glue up?
@peacefulwoodturner6547 Жыл бұрын
Just a paper bag. Cheap and easy

Use worm clamps on each end an glue is not required

I agree - you are lucky you didn't get hurt. You should watch some videos and learn how to turn safely before trying to teach others.
@peacefulwoodturner65477 жыл бұрын
Harold Golden thanks for the feedback. The piece was well clamped and had plenty of time to set. I may need to include the clamping in future videos!

i know this is old but do you realise that sanding and finish part will do a better job at a lower speed not a higher speed. like sanding go rigjt back to 500rpm so the sandpaper has time to cut off the fibres at that speed you just bend over the fibres.
@peacefulwoodturner65476 жыл бұрын
You are 100% correct! I now sand at much lower speeds.
