I'd give anything to go back to outward bound. Anakiwa has a very special place in my heart.

This was fantastic to watch. It hasn't really changed much since I did the Classic course which began 1st July 1975. I believe it was the first time they ran it in July due to the cold. I still believe it has helped me face many of life's hardships head on and come out the other end.

I did outward bound back in 1993. I was in Cook watch. You are put with completely different people than you. You never know what to expect next. To be woken up at 4am for a run is nothing! It was one of the hardest things I have ever done. It was not easy and everyday you are pushed right out of your comfort zone. You may have your guides but don’t think they will help you out of a shitty situation! It’s all up to you as a group. If it takes you till 2 in the morning to manage to get to your next overnight camp after no wind and having to row most of the the way, we were exhausted. Just when you think you are going to finally get a rest…. Naaaa! It was confronting, scary and dangerous at times, at times I hated it, exhausting, amazing, character building, bonding, freezing lol, but it was one of the best things I’ve ever done. So many times I thought I can’t go one any further and 4 hours later I was still going. We had a guy called Huia who was sent by the police, he was the most lovely guy and I’ve always wondered what ever happened to him. It was bloody hard! It was crap but that last day was the greatest feeling in the world to achieve what I achieved. Thank you Outward bound for the experience the biggest thing I got out of it was that - that I am stronger than I know and I can push myself to limits that I never dreamed ossicle. :)

My child is supposed to go to the one in Florida and I’m so scared to send him cause I have heard of some deaths ;(. It’s not easy so....I don’t know man

the last accidental death was in 78, you can look into the mountains of safety that go into these trips. I went when I was young and I've been sending my daughter for a few years now. Believe me, it's an experience you don't want your kid to miss out on.

OB restricts children's potential to excel in other areas of their lives. Besides, you can't go on a hike and study at the same time.

21 days isn't exactly a long time. Some schools pay for students to attend outward bound. I was fortunate to be sponsored myself. I'd go back tomorrow if I had the $
