Inside SpaceX Dragon Capsule.
SpaceX's Dragon capsule is a class of partially reusable cargo spacecraft.
The Dragon spacecraft is capable of carrying up to 7 passengers to and from Earth orbit, and beyond. It is the only spacecraft currently flying that is capable of returning significant amounts of cargo to Earth and is the first private spacecraft to take humans to the space station.
The Dragon spacecraft is outfitted with two drogue parachutes to help stabilize the spacecraft after reentry and four main parachutes to help slow the spacecraft down before landing.
The Dragon spacecraft is made up of three parts one is a nose cone cap, second, a conventional blunt-cone ballistic capsule, and third, an unpressurized cargo-carrier trunk with two solar arrays.
The Dragon capsule is reusable and capable of performing multiple missions. The trunk cannot be recovered; it separates from the capsule prior to re-entry and burns up in the Earth's atmosphere.

no, it's not capable, it was thought but that, but the idea was canceled due to being cheaper and safer to just test and develop parachutes, it was SpaceX decision to cancel it, not from nasa. anyways it will be required to make some important changes to be able to propulsive landing with current dragon version

So why don't we get the space junk and send it through the earth's atmosphere to burn it up??
@CardZed

Most space junk naturally decays, and upper stages usually vent excess fuel to slow down and deorbit. The main space junk problem comes from old satellites that cant be controlled anymore.

Space shuttle was more advanced
@WasatchWind
@WasatchWind 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you're looking at. Shuttle could carry more crew and far more payload. It also was capable of landing on a runaway. However, the shuttle was also far more expensive than flying on Falcon, and from the two missions that ended in tragedy, had clear problems with safety. Dragon in contrast is likely the safest human spacecraft ever designed. I think that most people attribute shuttle to being more "advanced" because it is a spaceplane. Theoretically if one can pull off this concept well it can be fantastic, but it introduces a lot more complexity, and hence, risk. That being said, there is the Dreamchaser spaceplane that could be added to the roster of US crewed vehicles in the coming decade. It's like a smaller looking, more modern shuttle essentially. However, the type of shuttle people dream of from sci fi, the single stage to orbit vehicle, in which you take off from a runaway, fly to space, and then land back on a runaway, is far beyond our current technology. It may exist someday, but it won't be developed unless there's a robust human spaceflight industry - one that requires vehicles like Dragon.

@@WasatchWind ....if they built the crew compartment to just blast apart from the ship...problem solved
@WasatchWind
@WasatchWind 2 жыл бұрын
@@Swanlord05 I don't think you understand how abort systems work. Yes, they considered ejection seats on the shuttle. It would still be extremely dangerous. Perhaps though it would've been better than nothing. The shuttle for the first portion of its flight had no abort system at all, while Dragon and Starliner can both abort at any point from the launch pad to orbit.
