Inside the cabin of my 1989 Daimler XJ6 (XJ40) - British Luxury at it's best!

This video was shot the day I first got the Daimler, it's a 'warts n all' look at the car, focusing on the interior and showing the dials, gauges and controls.

Very nice car and I personally prefer this car to the series 3. My take on this fine car was that the square head lights that match the rear square tail lights, were influenced by the Rolls Royce Silver Spirit which was introduced six years earlier. William Lyons always considered his saloon cars to be in the class of Rolls Royce but much cheaper and sportier. John Eagan who was in charge of jaguar at the time, was a little reluctant with this car and the square lights. However William Lyons who had been retired since 1972, but often put his own time in at the Jaguar design department, told John Eagan that they should go with the square head lights. So that is why I believe that it was the influence of the Rolls Royce Silver Spirit, that made William Lyons endorse this design. What ever negitive things one might have to say about the XJ40 it was a very balanced and harmonous design. 👍

That mat is the proper mat for the car, there should have been four, one in each floor well. They are lambs wool and the drivers would have a heal pad with Daimler embroidered on it. Had two XJ40 Daimler's now have the X308 version.

They are so beautiful inside and drive GREAT !!! . A car to have a British Holiday in with the family and the car gets caught in an old photograph years from now !!! . The styling isn't quite Series 111 but who cares ???? . Just have the paintwork buffed and buy some wax polish !!! . GREAT OLD CAR !!!
