my mum's wedding dress ended up in a shop like this run by Oxfam in the UK. We actually got sent pictures of the next bride to wear the dress because she wanted to say thank you to my mum for donating it. It was kind of amazing

Why do you have to buy wedding dress when you can rent it? I'm confused why people spend like 500 bucks for wedding dress when in my country all of the brides and the grooms rarely buy clothes for wedding. Most of us rent them.

I think there's nothing cheap about getting a second hand wedding dress, because it's actually beautiful that you get to share a part of the happiest day of your life with someone else on theirs. and the dresses are in tip top shape, there's literally no difference to a store bought one except that you're paying more and the textile industry is not very environment friendly so it's always great to buy second hand

My friend's wedding was the year before mine and I loved her dress so much that I asked her if I could borrow it for my wedding. She was happy to loan me the dress and we are still good friends 15 years later! I love how we got married in the same dress, it's a very special thing to share with someone. She originally bought it second hand and after I had it cleaned and gave it back to her, she sold it on again, so someone else could enjoy wearing it.

This is a wonderful idea. It saves bride's money but the money they do spend goes to a good cause. It also saves the planet. While browsing a charity shop I found a fabulous white linen Monsoon gown, hippy style with shoe string straps, fit and flared with lace and the top and around the bottom. It cost me £6. It was brand new. It would be suitable for a wedding or a special occasion.

I love this story ....... so please brides don't do those 'ruin your dress' wedding photos where people splatter paint over them or set them on fire....... it just seems such a waste. These beautiful garments can be worn again and both the buyer and the people who donate their dresses know it is helping a good cause. Brilliant idea.

+Karen I've always thought that that's an insane idea...trashing the dress may seem fun, but get a fake Halloween-dress then...to run around in, in the mud. I'd never pick the dress that I love and then have 30 pictures and throw it away...I don't want to sound insulting or generalising, but it really is an American concept to throw things away after 'use', instead of keeping or reusing/recycling them...
@TiBunCosplay
@TiBunCosplay 6 жыл бұрын
The brides who do the "trash the gown" thing are usually brides that cancel the wedding because they find out the groom cheated or something after the dress is already paid for. It's more of a coping thing rather than just "lets have fun and ruin something expensive". I personally wouldn't do it, but I understand why others would do so.

Great idea! I got married in a pink dress I had since before (and actually had worn to a few weddings). Wore it with a cardigan that was new for the day but which I have been using a few times since, paired with jeans and a normal top. I couldn't really get behind the idea of spending a lot of money and environmental resources on something to wear once, when I knew I'd feel great in what I already had.

The problem is that the prices aren't cheap & they are not transparent with their finances as a charity. I have no doubt that the owners are making a VERY nice income. They are openings several stores. These owners are making full profit as the gowns were donated to them. They then keep 3/4th of the profit & donate a bit to make it all seem legit

I wish there was a place like this near me. I have been married before so I never intended to wear a bridal gown when I get married again this fall. But my fiance has not been married and has asked I wear a bridal gown so we look like a wedding couple, not a prom couple. We're eloping and having a simple beach ceremony followed by a photo session and lunch. So at the most I will be in a dress 2 hours. I really have no intentions of spending thousands on a dress. And I'm child free so I will not be passing it on to anyone. I have checked the thrift stores here but they just have small sizes. So this would be perfect.

because they dont make profit, they pay their staff, shop rental costs, cleaning costs etc. and the 'profit' is donated (to various charities...the cause bit), plus it reduces waste, and opens up wedding dresses of their dreams to people who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it. Fine if you want to sell it yourself and keep the money but lots of people cant be bothered with the faff and would rather donate it to avoid landfill/taking up space in their closet. plus it stops surplus from businesses just going in a bin!
