I sent Hilary back to Ireland, so its a return to the normal run of the show for the Jagdpanzer. Panzermuseum Munster has two Jagdpanzers (Jagdpanzeren?) I cover both the prototype and mid-production variants.
This is a Wargaming-Paid video. The link if you want to start playing and attribute it to these videos (as mentioned towards the end) is tanks.ly/WoTChieftain

@gusty9053
@gusty9053 4 жыл бұрын
There is a "Stug IV" of a sort. At one point the factory that made the Pz 3 hulls was bomb out of existence so the production of Stugs was switched to a different firm. The only trouble was that the new firm was making Pz 4 at the time so there were stug superstructures mounted on Pz 4 hulls resulting in a un-official Stug 4. :)
@tlw4237
@tlw4237 4 жыл бұрын
@@gusty9053 Stug IV production wasn’t “unofficial”, it was authorised right up to Hitler level in 1943. Over 1,000 were built or converted from a few damaged PzIVs. It was a drawing board/concept project at Krupps before StugIII production was crippled by bombing. The reduced StugIII production was, as you say, a big impetus to getting the StugIV into production. It had the advantage of being cheaper and easier to build than the Panzerjager IV, used a lot of StugIII parts and the comparatively plentiful L48 gun rather than the L70.

I've always wondered; why wasn't the casemate superstructure a continuation of the upper plate in these kind of vehicles? Was it purely just for ease of access for maintenance of the transmission? If that where the case would it not be better to have a rear wheel drive vehicle? Would that have simplified production and reduce the amount of welding needed? If it's not the case, what would the reason be?

The Germans had magnetic anti-tank mines but no-one else seems to have used them much if at all. Even the British “sticky bomb” relied on thick grease to stick to a tank not magnets. I doubt magnetic anti-tank mines would be very effective anyway outside very close terrain where infantry stood a chance of creeping up on a tank without getting spotted.

Seems like they missed an opportunity to move the final drives to the rear, shifting the weight balance rearward since it was a problem with the vehicle, plus more space up front for the crew too. On the whole it looks like a pretty competent design; I suppose WoT’s Pz 3/4 could represent what it would look like if the hull had a turret.

The Germans were in a rush. They needed that vehicle on the battlefield ASAP. Germany was running rapidly running out of armored vehicles.

Every tank seems to have a towing mount, how often did they tow trailers?

12:00 when quoting HP numbers that low, please also include torque numbers as they matter so much more for a larger displacement engine moving a heavy vehicle.
@lobsterbark
@lobsterbark 3 жыл бұрын
No they don't. This is a boomers myth. Power is power. The torque at the wheels/sprokett is set correctly by the transmission. So the engine torque doesn't matter if the power and torque curve is the same.

Who shot the lower hull of that prototype? And with what? it's not a big caliber, but the hole seems to be quite deep.

Has anyone addressed the fact that sloped armor is also longer armor when compared to a thicker, verticle piece covering the same area from horizontal fire? Unless you're looking for improved overhead protection, the weight savings is negligible. Deflection gains some credibility then. I can't help but notice the M1 armor is more flat fronted, but not very high...

I am supprised to hear so many German technical terms in your videos. As a native German speaker, I have no issues with that, but I am sure most viewers might struggle with that. I would therefore suggest, that you add the technical terms with their translation as text on the screen. This would solve any mispronounciation issues and let viewers without prior knowledge of these terms see how they are written.

Exactly how much movement does the gun have up and down side to side ? I have never found an answer to that question, also how is accuracy compared to a conventional turret design.

Why where rubber wheels typically used rather than steel? Do the rubber wheels create less wear on the tracks themselfs?
@ZESAUCEBOSS
@ZESAUCEBOSS 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, they also have built in shock absorption and make the tank quieter. The t34 had all steel wheels and is notoriously loud to operate

Theymreduce noise and wear but most importantly Fuel consumption. Especially in vehicles with mediocre suspension.

"Return rollers! There are four per side on most vehicles; however, by the time you got to the end of the production run you are only looking at three. this is because they were running out of roller bearings." THANK YOU EIGHTH AIR FORCE!

25%+ casualties seems like a hell of a sacrifice just to get rid of one return roller. Hap Arnold and Bomber Harris were liabilities. Had the allies not had such a production advantage, they would have been sent to wall.
