As a Warsh memorizer of the Holy Quran from Algeria, this brings back deep memories for me. This way of memorizing the Quran used to be the norm all over North and sub-Saharan Africa. Warsh is the dominant RIWAYA in Africa because of the early North African Berber Scholars who spread the deen and Islam in the rest of Africa. I love these brothers from Nigeria so much, the handwriting of the Quran on those wooden tablets is a time capsule in itself. Something many of you perhaps don't know is that the Prophet peace be upon him, Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali and the rest of the sahaba from the Tribe of Quraysh did not pronounce " Al Hamza" just like in warsh riwaya. instead of saying "Al Ardh: for the earth, they would say it just like Warsh Riwaya " LARD", and not like Hafs Riwaya. This is why it is very important for us in Africa to preserve the Warsh Riwaya, not forget it, and not Adopt the Hafs Riwaya while neglecting the Riwaya of your ancestors!!!
