Having Daemon face the supernatural forces, something that has always been intertwined with the Targaryen’s since the Doom of Valyria, it’s an amazing callback to Season 1. Rhaenyra tried to tell Daemon of the Aegon the Conqueror’s prophecy leading to the Song of Ice and Fire an he was beyond pissed. Now he’s in Harrenhal facing his past mistakes as well as the present and will continue to see his inner demons in the form of people he cares about.

If there ever was something truly greater at risk than even the throne, the crown, and the realm, HIS BROTHER NEVER TOLD HIM because he couldn’t trust him with the power of dragons AND the power of prophecy. It would have enabled all of Daemon’s worst impulses of “by any means necessary.” He would have been a tyrant. And he has to confront that if Rhaeneyra is telling him the truth about what both she and Viserys believe to be a real prophecy connected to their ancient lineage, Daemon is bound to fall in line because he can understand when something is larger than himself, and I think deep down he’s always been chasing something even more thrilling and terrifying than even war, even being a dragon rider and The Rogue Prince, doing whatever he wanted and never suffering the consequences, but now that he’s found it, it actually scares him and makes him realize how small he is in the grand scheme Viserys always contemplated; how reckless and selfish he has always been and if he had acted differently, maybe he could have been entrusted with such a burden.

I think it's also an interesting character beat for Daemon! He's the type of guy who reacts to every problem or frustration with aggression! To punch the problem away! And because he'S a Talgaryian and a Dragonrider it usually works for him. So presenting Daemon with something beyond him, something he can't punch and threaten away is an interesting character development chance👍

I love the complexity of Alicent not going back on her false interpretation of Viserys’s last words both because she’s in too deep at this point AND because in making the choice to put her son on the throne, she lost her power to make these monumental decisions for the realm anymore. I think her character is really interesting and I love that she’s more than just the “wicked stepmother” trope
@DarkHarlequin5 ай бұрын
I think half of it is being overwhelmed and defensive especially cause the conversation went in a 'I'm right you're wrong' direction instead of trying to figure out the next steps. We all the know the feeling when you feel attacked and cornered and withdraw/push back out of almost reflex. And part of it is that she was raised as the daughter of Otto Hightower not a Talgaryian princess & queen and thus has a bit more of an instinct/experience for the pragmatic realities of politics and that (as Rhaenis tried to tell Rhaenera earlier this episode) it's already gone too for to just resolve this by clearing up who was right and who wasn't. Very interesting character I agree 🤗

Can someone explain what the repeted Aemond brothel scenes are trying to convey? Just that Aemond has a soft side? I don't see the point
@n.jboltz5995 ай бұрын
I think it is meant to show how unsure and insecure they all are. the blame they all hold for the current situation they are in. None of them are how they seem and none of them have any faith or trust in the ones they should be relying on. They are all at their weakest and falling apart. the Hightowers each stand alone despite the 'united' front, they don't trust or rely on eachother and can show no weakness even among themselves. Aemond couldn't bring himself to tell anyone he lost control of Vhagar and he had regrets. Luke was his first kill and the first death he witnessed. The only one Aemond could turn to was a whore in a brothel. Aemond losing control of Vhagar and Vhagar killing Luke was the tipping point that plunged the realm into full out war.

It’s to convey his need for maternal love and validation, which he never received much of from his paranoid, dissociative mother, negligent father and scheming grandfather. Also the sex worker he visits periodically- Sylvi- was his first and I assume the only woman he’s ever been with. Aemond displays a sort of fidelity to the things he covets as worthwhile: his studies, swordsmanship, his dragon, and his trusted source of comfort free of pretension and judgement. He is allowed to be his most vulnerable- eyepatch forfeited and all- all the while not bearing his usual aura of danger and duty. He is simply allowed to be.

People think Rhaenyra sneaking into KL was ridiculously dangerous, but I think it really fit her character, but also fit the current situation and her goal. Let me explain in more detail. Rhaenyra, as a person, is pretty entitled and stubborn and bit of a brat. Sure, she became calmer as the years went by (and as she experienced motherhood), but she still retains some of her teenage self as an adult. She's fierce. She says what she thinks. She has a dragon. She is the Realm's Delight, the Targaryen Princess, then the Heir to the throne, etc. Just to say: she's pretty confident and a little bit blind to her own flaws as well. Her blood runs hot, as most Targaryens' blood do, so it's not so farfetched to think Rhaenyra would try her luck sneaking into KL and believe it would end well for her. But let's also take into account the situation and the state of mind she's in. She's fragile and kinda desperate for a lead. She has not been trained to be the heir: she was named heir and then went to live in Driftmark and Dragonstone. She doesn't know of the difficulties of ruling the kingdom. She doesn't know much of ruling at all, she was too busy with her kids, with Harwin, but one could suppose it was mostly Laenor and then Daemon ruling her house while she was away (it's a patriarchal system after all, and Viserys didn’t do shit to prepare anyone to rule after him). She doesn't know what the best solution is to her pre-war with the Greens, and she has nobody to confide in. Her children are looking up to her. Daemon left her in a critical moment (like always), with nothing but trauma and bitter words. Her council is trying to push her out so they can play war among themselves. Harwin, Laenor, and Laena are all gone from her life. Corlys is playing with his boats. Only Rhaenys and Mysaria are left, and their advice is to go to Alicent to avoid the war. Rhaenyra listens to them because she also refuses to push Westeros to war for their family internal feud. She just lost Luke to "war", she knows how horrendous it feels. She's terrified of losing her other kids. Besides, her council sees her as weak, and she needs to prove herself. Is she even a real queen if she's not capable of risking her life to protect her people? (of avoiding the war?) So yeah, Rhaenyra stubbornness and confidence + her grief for Luke + her lack of true allies, and most importantly, advisors, in her close circle (except Rhaenys and Mysaria) + her want to avoid war for fear of useless bloodshed. But there is one last element to her secret visit into the Sept. Alicent. And let's just put it right there: Rhaenyra wouldn't risk her life only to talk to someone other than Alicent. Despite everything, Rhaenyra deeply trusts and loves and "knows" Alicent (her true self, before marriage and forced pregnancies and beyong appearances). She knows, at the very least, that Alicent does not wish for war. She knows Alicent is not responsible for Lucerys' death, just as Rhaenyra is not responsible for Jaehaerys' death. In Alicent, Rhaenyra finds happy memories of their shared childhood and tween/teen years - when Aemma was still alive, when Rhaenyra didn't care about being the heir, when Alicent wasn't thrown in a marriage she didn't wish for, etc. They found comfort and true love in each other (without other interests involved in their relationship), and these memories are still present in both of their minds/hearts. They also (barely) started to repair their relationship the night of Viserys' death, they know something is still there between them. So yeah, I think all these elements allowed Rhaenyra to go into KL, into the Sept, to see Alicent. And she was right to, since this meeting allowed her to find a direction to follow on her own. She refused everyone telling her what to do (because it undermines her position as queen), but Alicent is with the Greens and a woman she knows and she pushes Rhaenyra to a decision without even meaning to. Now, Rhaenyra knows Viserys truly wanted her on the throne, and she's actively making the choice to claim the throne. She becomes active, truly. She has made up her mind, thanks to Alicent, and she lets go of her doubts and more peaceful caring traits - just like Rhaenyra lets go of her children to fully become the Queen.

this show is turning into one of the greatest feminist shows of all time, and I find it quite enjoyable, my main concern is the current lack of balanced teams, the narrative has clearly established the Greens as bad and the Blacks as good, unlike the first season, which I preferred much more.
@ergohash25175 ай бұрын
i disagree . (at least for me) the 1st season was heavily team black biased, but S2 with only 3 episodes made me care and humanize Aegon, Aemond, Haeleana, Alicent and Otto so much for me.
@ahmedma3oda5 ай бұрын
@@ergohash2517 In the second season Cole has become highly dishonorable, and Alicent Hightower is seen as a bad mother. Aegon, nearly as reckless as Joffrey, kills the 100 rat catcher, and Aemond's involvement with a whore is also troubling. Meanwhile, Rhaenyra is portrayed as stable and loving towards her children. ppls opinion now heavily favors Rhaenyra's side, with polls showing an 80/20 split, up from 60/40 in the first season. that is why :D
@ergohash25175 ай бұрын
@@ahmedma3oda i see your point, but personally for me Cole was a POS after the time skip in S1 anyway, Aemond scenes in the brothel humanize him and show his vulnerability, Aegon's first petitions scene showed him as a a compassionate person and his grief after his son's death humanizes him as well. Alicent even has regret after Luke's death. As for Blacks, Rhaenyra was shown as stable and careful in S1 same as in S2, so nothing changed on their side. I dont disagree that most people are team Black, but i like what the show is doing to portray more nuance with Team Green this season, which makes me like them as well.

I think Rhaenera f**** up a little here. She started on 'how do we avert further escalation' but it quickly became about proving herself right and Alicent wrong. And in the end she goes 'Ha you idiot got it wrong I was right all along!' making Alicent feel cornered and overwhelmed and leaving Rhaenera now feel fully justified in whatever she does next. Reality is that (as Rhaenis tried to tell her) it doesn't matter what started the war. The way out of the war won't come from 'winning an argument'. And I fear many many people will pay with their lives for that tiny moment of triumph Rhaenera chose over compromise.

@DarkHarlequin5 ай бұрын
This is I think also Raenehras mistake in her conversation with Alicent. She thinks 'if we can just clear up the cause this can all be resolved!' And what Viserys said before his death is important for the two personally. But it's kind of too late for that to avert the war! The conversation should have been about how they get out of this war escalating! Instead it was about 'being right/proving the other wrong'. Alicent also seems to be aware of this (although I think it's also part defense mechanism) while Raenehra feels like she hasn't realized this yet. And so instead of leaving with the start of a solution, Alicent feels cornered and retreats into claiming powerlessness while Raenehra leaves feeling 'justified' and like she won the argument and this now validates whatever choice comes next. And it nearly always ends very bloody for the people when rulers think they are fully justified 😖

The characters are so unbelievably stupid, it's beyond belief. The war is happening, what Rhaenyra did ignoring her entire council and going to King's Landing like that was borderline suicide. If Alicent had her killed, that would have ended the war much quicker and cleaner. It's beggar's belief she believes that after having the heir to the throne killed in his sleep that Alicent has the power or influence to 'end' the war peacefully. Was there even a solution proposed? Why have a secret meeting where you could be killed, but not even propose something Alicent could implement? Ridiculous.
