My dad is a mason and Freemasons believe in the supreme being and respect every religion you have. We are a muslim and most members are Christians. No one can join if you are non believer of God, the supreme being. So it's actually quite opposite what other people think about freemasonry. And as far as I know the meetings are closed to the public because of their ritualistic ceremony which has nothing to do with "satanic rituals". they have meetings as a member and as a citizen of the country they are in. But believe me, most of their meetings are about charity works. Just like what my organisation do, the daughters of the masons. I am a Job's Daughter (that's what we call in our organisation) we mostly talk about charity in our meetings and it is close. :) I hope this answer will satisfy your question.

The story of the Third Degree, is of the principal architect of King Solomon's temple, Hiram Abif. When the temple was almost complete, three Fellowcraft workers accosted him and demanded of him, the secrets of a Master Mason. He had promised not to reveal them to those who are not qualified, so did not tell them. They murdered him because he decided to keep his word, his integrity being so important to him. Contrary to popular misconception Freemasonry is not dying out. What has died out is many thousands of X servicemen from World War II. Also, a lot of slightly younger guys who are now in their later years, that joined when Freemasonry went through a massive boom during the post War era. We have younger chaps joining all of the time, the problem is that they are only now equaling the number who are either dying off or too old or infirm to attend meetings. It all depends on the individual Lodge. Some have doubled in size over the last decade others have gone extinct. Each individual lodge basically runs its own affairs and is responsible for its own recruitment, as well as who it admits as a member and who it does not. The Respective Grand Lodges have very little influence over what are essentially individual privately run and owned Members Clubs. Their only roles are to keep an eye on matters to ensure that everything is regular and to provide honors for members who have distinguished themselves. Therefore although the ritual and rubrics of Craft Lodge meetings are very similar, the personality, age range, income level, size, profession or general make-up of a particular Lodger can be very different. For example, some lodges may have police officers, some may only have police officers, others none as that particular won't admit any for whatever reason. Some lodges will only admit members of a particular profession, students of a particular school or university. The vast majority on the other hand will admit virtually anyone who has been properly proposed with a willy ( in fully working order or not )who can afford the fees, pass a short interview without making a right dick of themselves, and does not have a criminal record. If you have ever wondered why Freemasons do not bother to defend themselves from the utter bullshittery that is often spoken about the fraternity, the answer is simple, so please read on. These rumors were put about by Freemasons many years ago to keep the wrong people out, and it worked. One thing Freemasons don't like is fools. As a candidate traditionally has to be well known to the proposer, the thinking was thus. The proposer is supposed to be a trusted friend of the candidate, so why would a trusted friend recommend someone to his own Lodge who he believed would not be suited?
