I feel like because of these kind of newsdocs or whatever you call it, adults always look weirdly at kpop and people who like kpop. They soooo often showcase it as such a idk weird(?) industry, but like you say, there are such important topics that are addressed and make us more comfortable to talk about such important things because of the songs and serious interviews that talk about these topics. If my grandparents would see what is said about kpop on Dutch television and hear that I listen to this music they would get a seizure.

It's important to note why Felix and Bang Chan were so resistent to being called 'kpop royalty'. It's not just because they're being humble. Seniority is a HUGE deal in Korean culture. Stray Kids are still considered a rookie group, having only debuted in 2018. Groups that debuted before them are their sunbaes - their seniors - and so they will ALWAYS consider themselves to be 'below' them, regardless of fanbases or successes etc. Respect based on age and seniority in the industry is very, very important.

@effyvoux 3 жыл бұрын
I think ‘overnight success’ is intended to be a reflection of the fan response, not the members’ level of preparation. They mean that the group’s popularity skyrocketed after debut (in contrast to groups who take years to become famous)

I think they were mostly showing her as an example for the ideal beauty type. Plus she *may have* gotten some cosmetic procedures done that aren’t plastic surgery. Like certain types of fillers that specialize in skin. Since good skin is a very glamorous feature to have in Korean society it might just seam more like a check with a dermatologist than a cosmetic procedure. Obviously nothing wrong with people who decide to get these procedures because at the end of the day they are grown adults who can make that decision for themselves.

Yes, celebrities are working with their bodies so its normal that they have to build up their look (it is normal in european countries or America as well) but painting everyone with the same brush is bad, so they shouldn’t talk like that about all k pop idols and put there a boy who is just handsome. It is like saying that there is no good looking people in korea, they all had plastic surgeries

The whole segment about the dark side of Kpop is way too outdated. The government has imposed several laws to regulate company treatment of trainees and idols. It is still harsh training, making concepts, and whatnot but not as bad as described. These days many companies are caring about idols’ health. There are many examples of idols who have taken breaks from group activities due to mental and physical health problems. The system also varies from company to company. You can’t just paint an image and say that’s Kpop when every idol goes through different experiences.

BobaGreen that’s what pays the most, so of course that would be the target demographic, but it’s time the stereotype bs stops. How are kpop artists supposed to be more respected (and for their success to grow) if the media, such as the posters of this video, indirectly claim that only teenagers like them. I will freakin love kpop even when I’m 25 or 27 lol. It’s more than just music.
@oliverhughes610
@oliverhughes610 4 жыл бұрын
It's also important to note that teenagers are by far the most powerful demographic in terms of social media. They are the most vocal and active in spreading kpop media, news etc, as well as streaming/downloading/buying the music more. Kpop spreads via teenagers, in other words. But of course it appeals to everyone - younger kids, and older adults. I was a teenager when I first got into it, back in 2011 - it was introduced to me by another teenager. That's how it goes. My love was reignited when I was 23 though, and I've gotten people in their mid 20s into it now.

Poor oli london has severe illness if people stopped mentioning him hed have to get attention elsewhere . There was an episode of botched like 20 years ago that educated about the the type of personality disorder and disphoria oli has its causes by trauma and a need to be or imprint on someone else as to not be in their own life anymore also they feed on postive and negative attention. Just "pray" Oli London gets better or stops trying to be jimin.

@Kibeeeeee

To the comment above, it has nothing to do with how much “artistic freedom” they’re given. It’s because they are active members of a group. Maybe if they were artists who had some sort of seniority in the industry they would have a better chance at saying something negative. But there’s always the saying “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you”. Maybe international fans would find it okay for them to voice about what they don’t like in the system- but I highly- HIGHLY doubt korean fans/media/public would appreciate that at all.

It’s sad that people look into the dark side of kpop and then think “oh wow so every person in kpop does this or is forced to do this” the fact that they don’t see what other groups are trying hard to be known for there hard work and make fans happy with what they want the concept to be when people hear there music

What they want? They want kpop process to be easy so they cant tell theres a bad side. The amount of hard work needed is what the amount it paid off. If it's easy kpop is not that special anymore because it's easy for people to become a kpop star. And that what have open minded think the big picture. Not just "ohh kpop is like that like that" dont stereotype everything

off topic but i've seen a lot of people [that i know] who dislike kpop because of the "dark" side but doesn't the western entertainment also have a dark side? doesn't matter where you are in the world, any entertainment is a business and therefore has a dark side.

@@spaghettim4668 the western industry is a lot worse if we're being honest that's why there's so many artist who have mental outburst over here. Koreas dark side is more of being controlled whereas the western dark side is drugs gang affiliation manipulation between artists and also control. All in all the western industry may seem more free but it isn't so people don't really have the right to say that the Korean industry is darker or worse because any industry in general always has its dark side
