Are you a native of the Santa Barbara area - and, if so, which one of these mansions is your favorite?

Bellasguado is my favorite.

I'm a native to the north and Santa barbara is very boring there is nothing there and it isn't as pretty as slo County It makes no sense that people would go for a vacation the mansions sit empty most of the year are just houses on a hill the downtown is a few blocks of just boring tourist shops no character at all

Love, love, the Santa Barbara and Carpinteria area.....gorgeous homes and perfect weather. I lived nearby for years and loved the restaurants in the area as well. I like the Val Verde Estate the best but it is hard to choose.

SB Native here. Lotus Land is my fav, most accessible to the community and impressive! I recently attended a couple paint and sips at Casa d Herrero. Estate is small and currently mismanaged. Not accessible to the community. Never been to Bellosguardo, VERY mismanaged by former city politicians who aren't observing Clark's wishes. Reserved for the wealthy only. Same with Dos Pueblos.

You are very lucky to live in such grandeur. I too would love a second home in this stunning area. Any suggestions on area.

I am fortunate to have visited 3 of these (as I have lived in Santa Barbara since 1971) -LotusLand, Casa Del Herrero and Cal Verde - all wonderful.

Casa del Herrero would be my pick as I think it most successfully embodies the Spanish Colonial Revival style. I like the use of historical black-and-white photographs as they capture the essence of the age in which these estates were created and add an interesting aesthetic to the houses and gardens.

Beautiful properties, love the history. I'm a Summerland resident who's fortunate to see these properties often, including one that isn't mentioned in this video.

El Mirador, Lolita Armour's estate 800 Cold Spring Road. I was fortunate to live there in the early 70's when she was still living there.

At 65 yrs now, I remember like it was yesterday being about ten and my friends and I would roaming the gardens of not only Lotusland but many of the estates in Monticeto .. heck it was an absolute hoot scaling walls, evading irate gardeners and often German shepherds while sneaking around and exploring as much as possible before our paranoia took over. Best memories were Madam G pretending not to notice us hiding behind a giant bird of Paradise and giving us a knowing wink ; the Car garages on all the grand estates were incredible and the Bodet estate( now Brooks Insitute) had a circular 12 car complex with gas, oil changing pits, and central court where washing and waxing took place. The stories are countless and the memories precious destined never to be told…

Ironic that the beautiful Clark mansion sat unoccupied for so many years. What a waste!
