Tim Urban knows that procrastination doesn't make sense, but he's never been able to shake his habit of waiting until the last minute to get things done. In this hilarious and insightful talk, Urban takes us on a journey through KZbin binges, Wikipedia rabbit holes and bouts of staring out the window -- and encourages us to think harder about what we're really procrastinating on, before we run out of time.

I, a non-procrastinator, do not understand why some people do, even my husband. He drives me crazy with all his "Oh no, this is due by tomorrow and *you have to help me*". I used to bail him out of his deadline issues all the time but now, if it doesn't hurt me, he's on his own. Does this make me a bad wife? I certainly hope not.

@@cheriem432 the point about deadline based procrastination was though that it usually works. Yes, you have to work more intensively in a short period of time, but you get things done. Most procrastinators, I would say, feel so bad and shameful about procrastinating until the panic hits that asking for help (and thus exposing the procrastination habit) would be the absolute last resort. And you're right, you shouldn't make it even easier for someone to only engage with the fun and easy.

@cheriem432 Ideally, try to help your husband out with his procrastinating problem (if it's very frequent and detrimental to himself). If he doesn't listen, you are not obliged to help him when he's in a pinch in the future.

@Anifco67 Sorry, i'll have to disagree with it. When you are a procrastinator, you are kind of perfectionist. Your mind wants certain, specific set up before it feels comfortable to do it. Also, one little discomfort in your task, can push you away from it, and it might take you months or years to come back to it. It's real, it happens.

Time and tide will not wait for any person. That means we must pay attention to how new technologies, and specifically AI, will make it easier for companies to become more efficient. Simply, this companies may not need a lot of workers, your bank may not need many staff. Your insurer may not need many workers. And the list keeps growing.

It has nothing to do with AI. Economic distress in America is enormous. Many banks have gone under. Inflation is biting harder. Ukrain miscalculation is obvious. Facebook has been using AI in most of its features and products for more than 15 years now, so Ai has nothing to do with it. They embarked on unprofitable projects. And over hired. Apple has never laid off employees despite the economic downturn. They did well in hiring and never had failed projects. Metaverse failed. Gaming projects failed. Fintech, Lira failed. In the last 20 months, Sanbberg left, nobody is there to "tame the lion" Most Tech companies went woke: hired talents in order to prevent competitors from having access, they kept them idle, just to hijack a pool of talent. Over hired without proper assessment and protection. The existing projects couldn't turn in expected revenue, even before inflation war in USA set it. Let's put it in perspective without blaming AI. 95% of big tech have been using AI in the last 15 years. Building a passive income is a real hedge against inflation. Such is a thing that won't fail when the govt and the big tech fails.

Excuses I make to myself when I procrastinate: "I'll have time later" (when I won't) "I'm still brainstorming" (When I've spent 75% of the project "brainstorming") "I'll start soon" "After I finish this game" "I'll just have a short break" "It's not that much work" "If it gets bad I'll request a due date extension" "I've earned a mental health break, I'll just do it in an hour" (When I've done nothing to earn a mental health break and I certainly know I won't do it in an hour) "I'm done with my homework" (When I myself know I'm not) I've even gone as far as to purposefully disconnect my internet or "lose" my school bag just to have an excuse to not do work. Why I lie to myself when I know it's a lie is beyond me, it's an unhealthy and stupid habit of mine but I can't get rid of it.

We as humans aren't meant to have the kind of jobs that most of us find themselves having. We aren't really supposed to have jobs even, our evolution tells us hunting, eating, sleeping and fucking is the good life, not doing stressful, productive stuff. Try not to struggle against our biology, it won't make it better.

I'm watching this while procrastinating and consoling myself saying at least I'm watching something that's giving me knowledge and not useless videos of cute baby goats.

Started this video 2 years back & haven't finished watching it yet. (Guilt) Yet paused to write this as I recalled. Today is the day I shall watch it completely. (Oath to self).

My dear fellow procrastinators, Resist those videos on your right that's been begging to be watched! Resist now and start finishing your task by making a reminder for you to tackle that task. You're one step closer to finishing that task. Now reward yourself by watching a movie.
