I'm a new player still struggling with tile efficiency and identifying safe tiles, but even so this was a really instructive video, and extremely calming too. While I'm not good enough to apply many of the concepts in here yet, it's really given me an idea of the sort of thing I can think about when deciding how to play a hand. Thank you for making this!

Wow you use Enkanomiya Music? Nice! Although I stopped playing Genshin Impact at AR56 I have to say that the music is amazing.

Yup, genshin's music is on another level

Actually, about this "sometimes you are stuck in 1 shanten" comment, you could have chiiied 4s early. Yes the hand becomes cheaper, but it's still dealer 2 han and it's an almost guaranteed win. you get to extend your dealership and get a bit of points. Also, there are value upgrades in that your hand can incorporate both of the missing akadoras

Yeah that's true, looking back there was a merit to chii that 4s

Did you stop with this video series? Would be cool to see more.

Putting it on hiatus for now, since it's much easier for me to stream games and narrate my thought process there! Also prevents people from thinking that I "cherry-pick" games too, which is a common feedback I've received from this series

Push in East 2 seems super sketchy, do you think it was the right play in hindsight? 1 shanten against dealer riichi with only 1 dora, and have to push 2 no suji tiles. Would like to know if you have any books discussing for push/fold in 1-shanten
@Xanxust1 Жыл бұрын
In hindsight, it's debatable. Usually it's not wrong to fold there. My thought process in the game was: 1) my hand has only 1 safe tile at that point, so it's quite likely I will run out of safe tiles if I decide to fold 2) when kamicha declared riichi, 8m has a 1 in 12 chance of dealing in. Plus it's still early in the game. I decided to take my chances 3) at the point where I oikake riichi, 7s deal in was around 1 in 11 chance. Discarding a 10% danger tile to oikake riichi gives an expected point loss of -1600 while betaori (folding) gives an expected point loss of -1700. The difference is 100 points in favour of oikake riichi (and would be larger considering the 7s is more like 9.1%), but I think both arguments for oikake and betaori are reasonable here. If I had a comfortable score lead, the correct decision there is definitely to betaori though. It's difficult to calculate all the numbers on the spot in a 5+20 second game, so I just went with whatever felt right to me. Riichi mahjong strategy by Fukuchi Makoto and Statistical Mahjong Strategy by Miinin are good books. The second book is where I got the above numbers from

Great game, thanks for this series! Any thoughts about ssk in all last? Or is it better to go for wider waits?
@Xanxust1 Жыл бұрын
Maybe could have thrown the 5s instead of the 8s, to hit ssk upon pairing up my 3m or 4m. Looking back, considering that the score gap between me and 3rd was quite big, maybe I should have greeded for ssk value (aim for riichi+tanyao+ssk). But I also can't say for certain what the right answer is

I find 4p so boring now compared to 3p. Every hand is just riichi dora or tanyao/yakuhai dora. Yawn
@cirnobyl91583 ай бұрын
Opposite for me. I find 3p boring compared to 4p. Hands complete so easily and people just push blindly.

3p just random mess, it could be fun, but there allmost no ways for strategy thinking, just force pushing, where only luck makes difference. Of course in any mahjong game luck does matter but in 3p its jus 3-sided coin flip.
