Even in Japan, they import foreign manufactured car models like BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, etc and you'll never hear them complain that German cars are killing the local industry. Instead, they strive to match them in quality and features. That's competition

I see it in a positive way it’ll increase the competition so it’s going to be good for the consumer…but it’s a threat to local manufacturing (eg: imported vs local produced armchair) so if the local don’t react and propose something equivalent…there’s going to be a huge problem in the local industry

*Nope! I don't think so, Kenyan designers and makers of furniture are very clever and creative; in fact just take a picture of any piece of furniture you like or bring one of them to the store to see for themselves. This guy will see it and he or she would make the same thing for you, even improve it to your liking at a very friendly price. So, what you see in these shops are only sources of inspiration for Kenyan workers if you really care to support them. It is is wonderful using those armchairs sets in your home knowing that you paid 75K shillings that went to create Kenyan jobs than letting the money go to support jobs in China or England for that matter.*

@@s.koileken369 Whichever way u look at it, Kenya will become a Chinese supermarket. This is globalization at its worst. Forget jua kali and local manufacturing. They can't beat Chinese prices. Unless...the government heavily taxes those imports to even the playing field.

@@raandit471 *you really seem to forget how China itself became such a powerhouse, through making copies of western goods and their tech. I appreciate your viewpoint but you seem to underestimate Kenyan workers. You also seem to ignore their capacity to organise through SACCOS, Kenya actually, leads many African countries in this area. In spite of the challenges, I have a very positive outlook that Kenya or even E. African countries can reproduce Chinese successes here at home. I don't know your experience but I have seen African workers making clothes of very high quality for export, I have seen the same quality in furniture. The government can do its part, but we shall not leave everything at the mercy of the government. We are African, and patriotic to our regions or countries, we are aware of colonial history and its economic / psychological implications. These heritage my friend together with the education, energy, resourcefulness of our people are powerful forces that I have no doubt will drive us to higher levels of econ. development.* *There are many of us who are looking to invest, create business opportunities for our people even under current circumstances where foreigners have a temporary advantage. The political climate will change with time and we shall outwit these foreigners' game plans. I am a very strong believer in the Kenyan worker: I and others who love Africa will support them in this direction.* 😊

Actually WEB DuBois himself, after whom the road is named, said it as DuBois (he pronounced the s). He said that the Frenchman who had raped his grandmother did not seek her consent and he therefore felt no obligation to respect the French pronunciation of a name foisted on his ancestors. Ironically when those who have no background in French therefore say it in the way Dolphine does they are pronouncing it as the man after whom the road is named did.

But now look at the 'hustler' government that people voted into power! And we all know that many of those Kamkunji traders are the ones who voted the hustlers into power, now they're being thrown under the bus. All I can say is, this is going to be a very painful but necessary lessons for Kenyans in terms of getting serious about the kind of leadership we want. Choices and consequences.

@@maynotg6521 Hello. Just wanted to let you know that Jesus loves you very much. He is coming back very soon and He wants you to be ready. Just go to Him as you are. You don’t have to be perfect. The only thing He requires is a full surrender of your life. Go to Him and give Him your life and everything. Once you surrender everything (from the heart). He will give you The Holy Spirit in His fullness. The Holy Spirit will then give you faith, the power to overcome sin, peace, fulfillment and above all, eternal life. You cannot do it on your own strength. It’s only by the Holy Spirit. And you get The Holy Spirit once you lay everything down, including your life at The Lord’s feet. He says in His Word “Not by might, not by power but by my Spirit”. People think Christianity is boring. That’s because they see it as a religion. Christianity is not a religion, but a personal relationship with Jesus Christ who loves you and gave Himself for you. Having a relationship with Christ is the most joyful fulfilling thing you can ever have. Jesus changed my life and He wants to change yours as well. The reason we are all here is to fellowship with and have a relationship with God.

the Chinese have their names IN YOUR FACE, and you are still giving them your support. its a pity that Africans did not own this mall. yes Africans have jobs here, but what KIND of jobs are they ALLOWED to have in this mall- "livable wage" or "just barley making it" jobs

I don't see anything wrong with the mall business is business. You can go anywhere in the world to start a business. It's good for our youths to have jobs and I'm giving them credit for creating jobs.

That's not the issue. The issue is that a Chinese person owns this mall and they haven't been treating us Africans with respect. Have heard a couple of cases and have seen it personally. Chinese are welcome as manufacturers but not as traders.

@@mustafabadri4070 Hello.

@@lucksonomari4999 Carrefour are not here to kill the by businesses by breaking the prices. They do have low prices but not that low that can kill other businesses. Carrefour also partners with local suppliers and they know how to treat employees and locals.
