Elon said the robotaxi rollout will be ready in 2025 in Texas and Cali. The robocab rollout for late 2026. I got a Model 3 last week and, while amazing, FSD is nowhere near ready for unsupervised driving, particularly at night. It thinks the side cameras are obstructed just because it's dark, and it can't recognize beams of light about to crest a hill- it needs to see the headlights directly. It also can't park. It also "panicked" and made me intervene for no reason at all (again, at night)

2:56 I would be more surprised if there was a window in the back. Why do you need it? you are not driving, the car is. also the extra weight, cost and engineering that comes with a large window. Robotaxi is all about saving money at scale.
@DaxSassАй бұрын
It is psychological. We are creatures of habits and our main 99.99% habit is the use of our eyes. If we don't feel safe and secure about a product, we don't buy it, we don't use it. Why do you think airplanes have windows? They are actually weak points in the plane's structural integrity. Yet we have to have windows. Even if it is a false sense of security and safety. I predict that the cybercab will be a flop. Once every other tesla get fsd, there is no need for a 2 seater exclusive cab. You can just use your model y to do the robotaxi for you.
@coolcat23Ай бұрын
5:47 "FSD is already there". That's BS. The European Union forced Tesla to stop marketing Teslas with "FSD" because their level 2 driving assist capabilities are nowhere near actual autonomous driving. Even in the US, Tesla now speaks of "Supervised full self-driving" which is an oxymoron. The car will definitely not be under 30k by 2027 and, if at all, will only be driving in very restricted areas.

$30K? Looks like $12K. Must include FSD for robotaxi use. Easy to clean, no rear window, no back seat, etc. A cheap ride folks will gradually fall in love with, but will take unpredictable time. Ppl DO like to keep their stuff in their car. But kids will grow up with it so over time it should reliably dominate. The question is how fast it catches on. Clearly not a low cost personal car as shown. And of course it will be approved with a wheel, pedals & rear window with a driver before it gets approved naked. As a taxi it must have boarding lights, which I think are shockingly missing.
@philwelling7172Ай бұрын
I think you are missing the main point. It is designed primarily as a taxi. I suspect few will buy it for personal use. It will be 10x cheaper to get one to pick you up, rather than pay outright for one. FSD is included in the price.
@BrandonDoyleMNАй бұрын

Was such a cool event. When you asked them about Hardware 3 being able to run FSD it seems like they hesitated a bit and Lars sort of nodded yes - more of a diagonal nod. My guess is they will make Hardware 3 robotaxi ready in the future, or they will allow a retrofit of some kind that will hopefully be free or low cost. They didn't talk about the Model 2 to avoid the Osbrone effect on Model 3 and because that will be focused on next year and the event will happen when they are ready to be delivered without a long lead time.

10:31 When Elon says 2026 for Optimus, he means limited production and for their own factories (pilot mode). Before you can see a humanoid robot at home give it another 10 years beyond that. People think 10 years is a long time but it is not, remember Roadster was announced 7 years ago and is still not available.
