Inside The New School's University Center: Students Move In to the Dormitories

The grand opening isn't until January 2014-at which point the entire New School community will have access to classes, the Event Cafe, a library, study spaces, and more-but student residents are already making the top eight floors of the University Center their new home. Listen and watch these freshmen, transfer, and returning students talk about the building, its location in the heart of the city, and more.

I just saw this school, today, online. I want to go to school for social sciences and creative writing and was looking at two main schools: UVA and Iowa university. But when I looked at the crime rates, I didn't like it so much. So I searched up the safest creative writing schools in america and this school popped up. I looked at the safety and is way more safe than some of the other colleges I wanted to go to, it seems interesting, I saw some reviews and stuff from the professors and students, read all about it and everything. I also like that they have literally EVERYTHING there, like Creative Writing, Sociology, Psychology, and other courses I am interested in taking. The only problem is that I live in the South, and this is in New York and I don't know if I will be able to make it. I just feel like crying because I just found it yesterday and was on it ever since. This is officially my dream school: the crime rates are low, they have everything I want. Why is college so expensive? I am a Junior in high school, so I have hurry up and apply and everything. You know? I have heard that living in dorms or whatever you first and/or second year of college is a really great experience, and I want to do just that, and then get an apartment and just LIVE. Get a part time job, have fun, do my work, and everything. Join the community and stuff. The only problem is money. I have to get a job. I have been trying to, but I need to try harder. And I will, if it means getting to the school of my dreams. I also need to get a LOT of scholarships. It's gonna be tough. I just hope that it's worth it in the end

I Would love to come to this school! I would cry mt eyes out But the thing is I live in Holland in europe and Our schools for fashion and design suck. Im only 16 turning 17 soon but don't have the money to come to new york. My parents both don't work and they are living on the money the government give us. I'm the onnly one who's working, and I'm still going to school. Im in my exam year so i dont wordk that much anymore and it pays enough to buy some food and little things I need every month. But I don't have any idea how I can make my dreams ever come true with this situation. And my english isn't the best. What I am trying now is to save up some money so I can go to new york one day to just go look how it is there and how the school looks like but for now that's all too far away..

***** Just as I thought, but I discovered A school in Amsterdam for fashion and it's really good and students from all over europe go there to It's called AMFI Amsterdam Fashion Institute It's like Fit and The new school. I kinda like it , there will be a open day soon,.. so maybe it's what I'm looking for, are you planning to study at a fashion school?

Thank you :) . I hope you'll get to know soon what is driving your spirits. I have just the same problem, but I decided that this is standing close to me because as a child I used to make sketches, and design clothes. This is the only thing what I like to do with my life for now. Because at the end of the day you'll have to work to make a life, so it better be something you like to do. Because you have to work for a long time.. That's how I think about it..

We have a same problem except my step father works but I don't take any money from him .my mother has no job and I wanted to go to parson even though I live in paris . I heard it's Damm expensive . I will do anything to go to parson . Best of luck for u

Kaira Gaychen I feel you girl, I know what youre going through. I'm now signed in at an art school in Rotterdam in Holland they teach you design and stuff and things with concept and a lot of other stuff with the best edtiting programs an stuff, so it's technical and creative. In the first year youre going to try out everything and in the second year you have to choose one of them where you are going to focus on. Sorry for my crappy summary, it's better when you see it yourself. It's called Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam ,It's not 100% fashion related and I'm probably not going to work with fabrics but it is a start. I want to do after this AMFI or come to Parsons.I'm going to work for it like I already do. But sometimes I just want to be this kid who doesn't have to worry and only have to ask her mom nicely to get what she wants. I feel so old sometimes because I have to work for what I want. I'm 17 now but sometimes I feel like a grown up woman with a fulltime shitty job, working her ass of to pay the bills. The government give my mom money for me every month to use it for my study and I didn't knew that, she kept it a secret from me. But I discovered it lately and when I think about what I could've done with it it makes me down. Because I try to work my butt off and also want to enjoy teenage life you know. But she's not willing to give the money. So I have to figure this out on my own. Sometimes I just wish that I was rich. But money isn't everything man I just want happiness. Best of luck for u too.

Alya T u r little bit better than me . I don't even have jobs lol .me too I m going to school this September .it's like highschool for fashion student and it's called lycee . I hope u can go to parsons and tbh last time I bought cloths was in February . I wish I can buy new cloths but my parents will not buy . They keep the money jn bank and if I ask they will say use ur own money (I don't have any Job and it's difficult for me to get cuz in paris not 16 yeas old will get job) . Thank god my aunty buy me cloths and send for me

I got my MFA for string books for children and teens from there expecting everything to be awesome, but it was horrible! When it seemed like everything was going to be okay something went wrong! I was mislabeled because I was trying to act tough and was exploring dark themes with my art. How to expect to improve? I hate the school and despite the benefits I do not recommend the program. I have spend many night awake emotionally breaking down over the two years I spent there. I made a vow to never recommend the school, to never donate a single penny to the vile place, and never to return unless it means judging the Scholastic Teen Art & Writing Awards. I have 26 gold keys and three National titles from those. Winning is a big deal. If you get sliver, or gold you get to walk across the stage of Carnegie Hall.
