Was anyone else singing the Pink Panther tune when the Pink Panda turned up? This collection is amazing. I never realised that MK1 Puntos had such an issue with rusting floors. Still a great shape with the Volvo 850 estate style tail lights. Got to love a Panda though. Simple, practical charm

Vernon’s Panda Rescue Centre! I would love Fiat to see this as Vernon could definitely put the Limited edition Sergio Tacchini and Sisley models in a museum or The Fashion Museum to highlight the collaboration between Cars and Fashion. That's brilliant so good to see a stash of cars that will eventually live again. The Punto still looks great now, Fiat were brilliant at small practical cars, sadly they seem obsessed with only the 500 now. What a great idea the Panda 4x4 was a cheap (nearly) go anywhere vehicle for those with a small budget. That 850 Sport Coupe is a stunner especially in the best colour and definitely an appreciating classic. Thanks Matt and also to Vernon for letting us into his World of FIAT.

I understand you. I had a 600 SX bought new in 2002, used every day for work, never had anything but a couple of years ago I wanted a new car. Looking at the current production I couldn't find anything like the 600: practical for the city, simple, small on the outside, large on the inside, 4 seats, lively, nice, low consumption, ZERO maintenance. So I started looking and I found a 0 km from 2010 in Germany, red, I re-imported it and for two years I have been using it daily with the new license plate. Unique pleasure. And think that in my garage I have other cars, sports and important

Exellent vid Matt. The early beige pressed metal grille Panda is exacty the same as one I was being towed in nearly 40 years ago behind a Landrover. We were helping a friend after the clutch cable snapped, the clutch pedal had dropped to floor. At a junction I managed to miss the brake pedal and run into the back of the LandRovers tow hitch.... fortunately the then ultra modern plastic bumper bounced back into shape and no one was the wiser.

I would never have guessed old Pandas and Puntos would one day become valuable classics. So many petrol heads "in the know" were disparaging of them back in the day. Cheap and cheerful, people on a budget bought them and threw them away like an empty crisp bag when rust set in or the repair/maintenance bills crept up. Keep hold of your crisp wrappers people... just in case!😁😊

What an absolute treasure chest of cute Pandas, always have a sweet spot for these cheap basic boxy motors! Little unknown fact about the CVT, the same gearbox was used in the Fiesta and Micra cars as mentioned, it was also used in many Rover cars, known as the Stepspeed/Steptronic for years. First front-wheel CVT mass produced, a joint venture initially between Ford and Fiat with Van Doorme Transmissions, the home of the original CVT - the DAF Variomatic!! What a cracking video, it's so nice that so many of these will see the light of day at some point soon!

Had a Panda 45 back in the day. Lots of fun (and trouble :-) It had an tiny 25l LPG tank mounted behind the back axle. From memory, things that broke: engine mounts, head gaskets (because LPG), starter motor, door window mechanisms, clutch cable, rear spring suspension, bonnet frame, hatch lock. Mostly easy repairs with scrap yard parts. Crashed it on an on-ramp where traffic was unexpectedly on a crawl-speed, rear-ended (and totaled!) an Opel but everyone walked away unharmed. The end.

Great to see that lot, as a huge Fiat head (who`s somewhere between a hoarder & a collector! 😂). I was thinking as you were going through them, that the post March 2001 FIRE engined MPi Sei`s/Punto`s were Euro 3 & therefore ULEZ compliant, in theory, if Vern fitted the full running gear into the Panda`s & Uno`s, & got them type approved, we could still retain some retro Fiats in our wonderful capitol without incurring the wrath of TFL..

@@cliveprocter3698 Most of the surviving Panda`s & Uno`s are 88-94, so its not "a couple of years". The garage rent to store them the 5-10 years in the meantime would outweigh their value several times over..

My first new car was a red Panda S Super Plus - the absolute top of the 2-wheel drive range (it replaced my 1972 Fiat 500). It had a 5-speed geabox, reclining seats and thick black plastic add-ons on the sides. I paid £5,100 plus an extra £100 for a radio. It was the car displayed in the showroom. I picked it up on June 11th 1988, a week after buying it. I later bought one of the roof racks seen on the video and used it to carry kayaks to the river. I sold it when I got a company car but I've always regretted it. E640UHA(I chose the plate number from the ones the Fiat dealer had available) - long dead, sadly.
