You need to try and go back sometime soon. Great video for what you were able to shoot. I was able to walk around Wrigley Field in Chicago in the dead of Winter via an "Unlocked gate" :-)

I still remember going to Astros games and the beloved Big Blue games.... I miss watching Stabler and Jerry Glanville on the sidelines. Still to this day people ask me who's my team and my reply is the Oilers haha. Good video man, shame its not being used. Love Ya Blue!!!

This seems like such an amazing arena. Can't believe it's vacant and abandoned. Don't demolish it, its a fucking beauty.
@MrAquarius249312 жыл бұрын
They should just give it to U of H and TSU for their home stadium. The Astrodome is still useful it just needs repairing. Of course it's gonna cost a shitload of money but it's better than building a whole new stadium for U of H and TSU because that will cost like billions of dollars and building a whole new stadium for the two colleges is wasting money that could be saved in opinion.

The seats were on a track, similar to a train track. They were adjusted to fit the needs of the baseball diamond as well as the gridiron used for the football setup. The turf was the same for football/baseball.

I live here in Houston (only been here a year) and everyone says the security there is tight, the building is basically no longer up to code and needs millions in renovations just to make it habitable. They need to do it - too many rumors of a possible tear down or implosion in the near future. This building is a national treasure.

Thats so sad. I have never been inside it, but I'm mad that this stadium is not been used anymore. I hope they bring it back.

Home plate is actually on the far left of the video. You can see where the dirt were on the concrete floor along with the rail system that the first level seats were located on.

This place brings my dad's best days back to him. I was only a little kid when I first went to the Astrodome. My dad (born in Ohio but lived in Houston from 1970-2000) went to so many Astros games and always went to Oilers vs Browns games in the Astrodome. Also went to a USFL game in there. I asked him what the experience was like and he said back then it was beyond amazing. Of course today you see how better technology is then it was in the Astrodome, but the Astrodome started a big move in technology with the first animated screen. Always wanted to see the Astrodome now for myself since I couldn't remember what it was like then. I now live in Ohio but still visit Houston about once a month for work reasons, and I hope to use this guys method of walking through an unlocked gate unless they hold tours or something else. Also hoped UH and/or TSU would have renovated the Astrodome instead of creating TDECU stadium, it still looks like a useful place for sports. Almost thought that if the Houston Dynamo didn't get BBVA that they would have moved to the Astrodome, kind of like DC United in RFK (for now until DC United Stadium is built). The only thing I could see of it now is if it is still used for storage, used as a museum because of its history, or if they decide to reduce it to rubble (demolish it).

During the rodeo this year, a couple of friends and I snuck into the dome for a couple of hours and saw everything. From the roof to the locker rooms...everything. Here are a couple of notes i found: It is very dirty: everything was covered in dust. Still names on the lockers: I saw a locker with Art Howe's name on it. Storage room for baseball: Still has many things in it. Old on-deck mats, batting helmets, pitching machines, baseball, all sorts of stuff. Very trashy: beer cans, peanut bags

The Mezzanine level seats had wheels and sat on a rail so the could be positioned for football or baseball games. There was only one turf and it was used for both baseball and football. I remember going to Astros games and you could see faint lines from the football field where they removed them for baseball games and also during Oiler games there were times when there was still dirt where the bases were where it hadnt been removed completely but didnt interfere with the field
@murany0612 жыл бұрын
@BugattiVeyron4514 they had turf for both, which is where the term "astroturf" came from because it was the first stadium to use it. The field was changed by moving the field level seats which were on a rail system like railroad tracks

What ended up as the final night of both the Attitude Era and Monday Night War. Though WCW was in possession by WWF(WWE) hands on March 23, 2001, this event pretty well was the true symbolic end to those eras, and both ended with the single-greatest night in their histories. =P

they should seriously play a retro series there at some point. intead of just turn back the clock uniforms, set up the dome and let the fans go back in time for a series. or even if they played like 20 games there just for the money, which they are really gonna need this season and moving to the AL West next year.

@billybassman21 The county let the dome go to $%^*. And one main point to prove this is the fact that there are NO A/C coolers outside of the dome anymore. They tore them down a few years back. They already had in mind to close this place down a few years ago. It's upsetting. My uncle worked for Harris County as project manager at the dome...this place was part of my childhood. :)

They should fix it up and lease it to the local school districts for various sporting events. No reason for it to go to waste. These pie in the sky ideas to make it into a hotel or an amusment park will never happen.

My cousin who works for the management company at the park can't even get in there. They have the gates and doors chained on the outside. So they just left a gate open? I believe you, but why would any gate be unlocked. That place doesn't even have a certificate of occupancy and hasn't for years. lol

It's not the Reliant Houston Astrodome I think you're combining Reliant Stadium with the Astrodome. The Astrodome is owned by the city of Houston therefore it has no brand sponsored like Enron, Minute Maid, or Reliant
@TheAutumnNetwork12 жыл бұрын
Eh, too late for all that. TSU will play their home games at the BBVA since they paid into the construction of the stadium. BBVA looks fuckin amazing btw. UH is simply going to re-do Robertson and make it better. I would love to see something positive come about with the Astrodome sports wise, but at this point it wouldn't make any since.
