Join me as we explore an abandoned wing of the Athens Lunatic Asylum, also known as The Ridges, in Athens, Ohio. The Ridges is a former psychiatric hospital that is known for its eerie architecture and haunting history. This abandoned wing was still very much original when recorded and most likely looked the same as it did in the 1970s.
In this video, you will see footage of the abandoned wards, cells, and corridors of the asylum wing. You will also learn about the history of the Ridges and the Kirkbride Plan, which was the architectural style used to design many psychiatric hospitals in the 19th century.

I would like to remind everyone that no one should attempt this location! The OUPD are now in the building and keeping it preserved as is, is very important

Can I ask how you got in? I'm at the university and have been trying to get permission from the school to do photography inside for awhile.

I am surprised that the roof is not a total wreck yet , the scrappers have not totaled the place yet, and even most the lock cylinders are mostly intact , and vandals have not totally ruined the place yet !

Yes her stain is actually on the opposite side as this wing. I saw it in person back in 2018 before that side was renovated.

Austin get a mask at home depot that's rated to filter out mold and asbestos and will also filter out lead paint dust. You can get one for about $25.

Window covers with holes: My guess is that they were used on patients who could not keep their clothes on. On youtube, former staff stated that some patients were constantly trying to be naked.
