Jon, great job here, I'm glad you took the time to make a lesson of this iconic Dickie solo. Years ago I learned the old fashion way by repeating the solo over and over again to learn by ear. Keep up the great work!

Your explanation is the clearest 😊. I am Japanese and my English is not good, but I think the way you play the phrases right after you mouth them and the way you explain the positions in detail is very easy to understand for those who are trying to learn👍

2 years late to this party, but so worth it. Great lesson on such a tasteful solo. Great example of using space and perfect note choice. The way you have broken this down and explain what’s going on is superb!

Love the channel and thanks for the great lessons. I’ve included a link to this video in the launch of the Guitarly app. on Android. Guitarly is a free, jamming app which gives a backing track and shows the chord, chord tones and scale notes as they change over an interactive fretboard. The track can be paused/skipped and the tempo, drum pattern and instruments can be changed to inspire your soloing. We would love to feature your work but if you want this link removed (or would like to include links to other lessons) please let me know. All the best and thanks for the great lessons. Paul

Nice taking the solo apart. I know a lot of people that went to school on ABB at Filmore East. (A mild suggestion? Perhaps you can point out which scale degrees are at play rather than just string/fret nubmers? That was the missing link for me for years... far too many years. I finally began to understand solos, what works, and how to re-use ideas in other songs once I started to pay attention to things like the b3 and 3, the 7th, bending to the 1, etc. Now it drives me crazy when people talk about strings and frets only and not what's happening musically(!).)

I think Dicky (and the Allmans in general) are more characterized by major pentatonics. More like westcoast country influenced rock than classic melancholy minor blues penta.
