Back into the wrestling like when I was 10yrs old and nicknamed Little Ms Undertaker ...I also read a lot of mystery crime novels. Now in my forties and wondering how KZbin knew to take me back there....Maybe we are living in a giant simulation...🤔...That's too much thinking for one day...off to take a well earned " in my forties nap' Getting off the couch is going to require a lot of energy so I might just have a crispy snack as well 🙂

I used to, too... I haven't had one in a while but I do garden now so maybe I should try again. I think it might have a lot to do with how they're put in tiny pots and never transplanted, and people tend to forget the "plant" part of them. That, and I think we all triggered some of the traps for fun, and that's terrible for them.
@tiffanyrich1829
@tiffanyrich1829 Ай бұрын
My Mom and I literally could never get one to survive. Then someone we knew that's been where they grow naturally said they stay damp and very wet constantly. Lots of light too. And to take them out of their container but not the potted part. So, we've got water bowls they set in constantly and keeps them very moist. We've set them in our bathroom window that gets sun for most of the day and that room stays humid and warm constantly. It's never air cooled with AC ECT. We keep the leaves and traps that are turning brown after eating and start to die plucked out. These fly traps are thriving for months on end now, when used to they'd die in a month or so. Once the water starts to run low in the water dish the pot sits in refill and wala. Hope this helps you as much as it did us. ❤

Make sure you use ONLY distilled water since tap water or any other water for that matter contains minerals and particles which will dry and burn the entire plant down to the root and if you are replanting you must use special carnivorous plant soil

The reason it wasn't digested was because the slug has inhibitors in its slime to protect it from the digestive enzymes and the slime also forced alot of the fluid out of the trap causing it to burn itself. At least that's my theory 🤷‍♂️

Slugs can secrete a protective coating over themselves though... Right? I could be wrong but thought I saw a slug do this to protect itself from ants. No it has to do with the fact slugs and snails have mucas membranes covering their entire body. The digestive juices didnt even touch the slug. It just dissolved the mucas. It also leaked juices because of the mucas.

Slugs and Snails are actually pretty adept at surviving Flytraps. Their mucus acts as a protective layer just like how the mucus in our stomach lining protects our stomach from the digestive acid and can even allow them to escape between the teeth of the trap. Not the best specimen for this video 😁

As long as your artificial light is (uva/uvb) adequate for the plant, that shouldn’t be the issue. I think it’s more likely that the digestion was slowed down due to energy shifting towards new growth. That and you mentioned the digestive fluids leaking and burning the plant. Any cut, burn etc means the plant will also have to shift some of its energy to heal. Also mucous is a great defensive layer and slugs are lathered in it:)

Very logical. As this is an older vid now, under the same light intensity..the plant are very healthy.

It stopped consuming the slug when the acids leaking caused enough damage to signal the plant to shut down secretions. Artificial light doesnt cause incomplete digestion.

My assumption wasn't artificial light, but lack of intensity.

Why tf did you just cut the head of that Venus fly trap like that? Just bc you CAN do something doesn’t always mean you should…

shortly before my VFT went into dormancy for the winter this last year, i nipped and opened a trap that contained a lady beetle for about 4 or so weeks. i'm doubtful that artificial light was affecting your trap's digestion rate because mine's an outdoor and its digestion was about as slow, but harder-shelled beetles aren't recommended for carnivorous plants because of how tough the elytra can be to break down 😅 so maybe that's on me! nice video, i'm glad to see so many venus flytrap videos coming up and i hope yours is bringing you as much joy as mine is for me 🎉

Not to be a stickler but unless your putting your scissors in an oven and sterilizing it like surgery equipment is sterilized the scissors are not sterilized, just aseptic or disinfected

No. It’s because slugs secrete a mucus polymer layer that can’t be digested by almost anything. A dry slug salted should digest completely.

If you're saying the reason why your plant is a consuming as much as you think it should be consuming is because of artificial light then get a more powerful light but I'm pretty sure that's not the reason why

Wouldn’t you want to wear a glove for this curious experiment? There are interesting fluids inside. Your fingers can be poked/ cut open during the process and weird bacteria can get into your open wound, and most of the time, this baby eats and digest pretty interesting insects 🐞 🐜 🕷️ 🦗🦟🪳🪲🪰… 🤮 Hardly any of them sterilized, especially not after being in “ flower- stomach “ liquid…🧐

It's called "enjoying the food". I don't know anything about that because I inhale whatever I eat. But, rumors say the slower you eat and digest the food, the better the distribution of nutrients.
