ANTARKRANTI- the Prisoners' Reformation and Rehabilitation Initiative Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan, founded by Shri Ashutosh Ji Maharaj has been working in Central Jail, Tihar as a Non-Governmental Organization since 1995. It undertakes socio-spiritual and social activities for the reformation and rehabilitation of prison-inmates under-trials, convicted individuals and those who are acquitted on completion of their prison terms. The main aim of the Sansthan is to bring about transformation in the attitude and behavior of the inmates lodged in prisons. Why Jail? When man becomes materialistic, his senses overpower his virtues. As a result he forgets his divinity and loses human values. In the mad race for worldly accumulation, he becomes self-centred. He is all out to destroy others to meet his selfish ends. This gives rise to various ills in the society like greed, ill-will, jealousy, distrust, hatred, ego, revengeful attitude, lust, crime against women etc. Now his main aim is not the fulfillment of the basic needs alone but earning easy money at whatever cost. He wants to enjoy comforts and luxuries in life at others expense. In the blind pursuit of his desires, he falls prey to his Tamsic Vritties (demonic tendencies), which predominate over inherent satvic tendencies. As a result, he commits unlawful acts, which lend him in Jail. The Sansthan is of firm conviction that punishment is not a viable solution to counter the evils that breed in the society. Rather at times punishment may prove to be counter productive. Inmates mostly become victims of the circumstances, which compel them to commit such evil acts for which they are lodged in Jail. As a preventive step, it would be necessary to look deeper into the root causes of the various evils so that they are nipped in the bud. Prevention is always better than cure. Mental Condition of Inmates & How they are taken care of: When the inmates are lodged in Jail they are in very pathetic state. They suffer bouts of depression and mental agony. Some feel under tension, while others feel committing suicide. At times, they breed a revengeful attitude. Their thinking becomes negative. They lose their mental equilibrium. Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan brings transformation in them by educating them the core reality of human life and the importance of human values through its awareness programmes. It kindles new life in the barren hearts, which are nurtured with profound love. As is evident from its very name, Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan is an organization that kindles Divine Light in every human soul, which Divinity the man is unaware of due to his ignorance. That is the basic reason that his potential remains untapped. The Divine Light is the true nature that glows in every human being when initiated with the divine grace of a Perfect Spiritual Master. Only ignited lamps can light the extinguished lamps. Once inflamed, the divine light spreads in all the chambers of our heart. In order to bring life in the dispirited souls, the Sansthan deputes its preachers and psychologists to read their mental status and encourage them to come up to their normal mental level by giving suitable moral and spiritual preaching for awakening them from within. It is the endeavor of the Sansthan to touch the inner core of distressed inmates to bring back their original mental balance. Not only this, the inmates are also bestowed with practical spiritual knowledge (Braham Gyan) which brings revolutionary changes in their behavior and perception.
