Fabulous woodwork. Much enhances the original ethic. Very well imagined and managed renovations. Probably among the best of "updating" I've ever seen.

This used to be the Joseph Hirshhorn house and before that the Sinclair-Robinson house. Hirshhorn had an incredible sculpture garden. He donated the scuptures (Rodins and Henry Moores) and endowed the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington D.C.

Not only survived, but improved! What a truly refreshing change! It's such a shame more architectural gems didn't get this treatment.

It pains me to see all that ivy as it damages the brick and hides beautiful masonry. I used to love the way ivy looks but I’ve learned the hard way what it does.
@JohnPValentine12 күн бұрын
That’s true for English ivy, which has roots that dig into mortar, but this looks like Boston ivy which grips the surface with delicate tendrils and does not damage brick (although it can mar painted surfaces).

Plus the bugs. I've lived in a house that was partially covered in ivy and we had so many spiders, despite screens.

He sold his business for $1.6 Billion in 2006. His financial advisors didn’t do him any favors, the company was worth more like $3 Billion. Just think the extra money he left in the table could have gone to Eldridge Park to put back like it was in ‘60s. This would have been the best gift ever for future generations to enjoy. So it didn’t happen, how about at least build some new playgrounds and splash parks for the children instead of Museums with your name on it.

@ceceliaclarke11 күн бұрын
@@dojocho1894that is part of the problem with "antler" chandeliers. They are imitation "royalty" and in this way, obnoxious. And in response to your comment, just because an interior element can be seen in a centuries old castle in Europe does not mean that it is going to look good in another place. If this could be true, then every American living room should have a full suit of armor? Or would that look ridiculous and pretentious? And...Black Forest of Germany also has an abundance of cuckoo clocks? So would a Black Forest cuckoo clock also look really good in this kitchen? I happen to think that a person who pushes " royal " elements just because they are royal, should "get a life". There is nothing tasteful or elegant about this type of imitation.

13.000 sq. ft. for $60,000!!! Even in the 1930’s that sounds cheap. This goes to show you how cheap labor and craftsmanship was, and how ridiculously expensive average, boring houses have become. And even Jeeps and pickup trucks can exceed $100,000. Something has to give. Common sense pricing has to come back or today’s college students will not be able to afford either.
