I was thinking the same thing. Had the little boy not tell his mom right away, he likely would’ve died. So glad he survived and his arm was saved as well. Very fortunate little guy.

imagine if he didnt tell mom! I once was playing on a jungle gym and fell off, but i had a pencil in my pocket... i was 8. pencil went right through my back. but my mom was extremely abusive so i was so terrified to tell her. HOURS later, the pain got so bad I had to say something. I was rushed to the ER. A piece of that pencil is still in my back today!

It's extremely hard to extract antivenom, I imagine they only keep it on hand in high risk areas. Although.....considering the kid got bit in his backyard idk why their nearest hospital wouldn't have some on hand. 45 minutes could've been death.

@@admar6934 A child is still bigger than the rattlesnake. The snake may still see them as a threat, it doesn't know whether the "big scary thing" is no threat or intending to eat or harm it. Some humans also likewise end up harming or killing harmless animals because they look threatening (or even for other reasons), one time my parents killed a snake and destroyed its nest on sight even though it wasn't even a venomous species and likely helped by eating rodents; an animal would probably act the same, just trying not to take any chances with something that could turn out to be dangerous.

If you live in such a habitat, you should always be prepared. My father instilled in me at a very young age how to always look before you step, and other cautionary tips. As an adult, I was always terrified of walking to my car in the dark while living in Florida.

Oh my gosh I almost got bit as a baby!! Like a couple months ago old. My dad sat me in the grass and a baby rattle snake almost bit me. If it wasn’t for my grandpas dog I would have gotten bit. The dog survive and my dad and grandpa rushed him to the vet

For those who don't know, this is the first aid for snake bites You bandage from under the bite site and go all the way up to your elbow or knee and have it tight Then you get a straight bit of wood and then bandage that on top of the one you just put on

Love in Az and have these all the time. To protect out animals, we dispatch them carefully because we knkw the nesrest hospital is far from us. If you want my advice, always check corners and check areas that rattle snackes would most likely hide in. One almost got me since they were under the stairs of my trailer, and I spotted it just in time.

I have a eastern brown snake that lives around my house and a taipan that lives in by front paddock I always keep a very sharp eye out for movement then avoid that area for a hour minimum and constantly look out for movement

The only "repellent" would be to have a wooden fence that's a inch deep and a two feet high (venomous snakes cannot climb) with a gate that has a concrete step that has a 1mm gap to the gate snakes cannot get in after going to that extent

His parents were probably in the backyard too. You don't seem to have kids, but even a 2 year old is very quick and they will often spot/investigate things that their parents might not notice right away. The parent could have been feet away and not have gotten him away in time.
