We remember the Morrowinds and the Vice Cities because they were the exceptions, but the vast majority of games back in the day were crazy short. I have yet to buy a $70 game and will never buy a $100 game. They sale you a game for $60 or $70 and then by the time dlc and other micro transactions will end up costing you more then $100 either way. Also games for far less are released in a much better state then these AAA games. They could get more money by actually making a good game.

I’m in favor of more flexible pricing. I’m not even against a $100 game if it proves its worth that price. I’m pretty sure all that will happen though is after gta sells super well at $100 every big company is going to think they can set that as the standard for whatever shlock they pump out. While people may be willing to give a butt clenching amount to rockstar, most games certainly won’t be at that level.

I already refuse to buy games at the $70 USD price tag (that's around $95 CAD before taxes and over $100 already with taxes) If games start becoming $100 us, that's nearly $150 Canadian. And that is before a 15% tax is applied. So if GTA and future games go the route of 100 U.S dollars, they will be losing a sale from me. I will refuse to pay until they are at least half price or more off. Games like that hit us with microtransactions out the ass at this point and it's just greed beyond greed. There will be a game crash if they continue to keep this up, history is doomed to repeat itself after all. It's been a long time since the last game crash, so we're due for another one eventually. Maybe this will be what causes it, but probably not because people seem to like to throw away money on stuff like this and don't realzie they're feeding into the problem.

I've played every fifa since fifa 13 and this year has been horrific, they've brought out a patch recently and everyone loves it. It's genuinely revived the game, they've given us gameplay updates, tones of content to play and grind for, they clearly were noticing people had given up and left the game but they couldn't be bothered to do this at the start of the game, sums up EA really.

I want to disagree a little bit about your conclusion that its just, "no one wants to pay more for games". Its true that games have always been around the 50-70 dollar range but that used to cover the making of the game, the physical copy and everything in the box, and the distribution of the game to the stores. And since there was no patches you at least knew you were getting a complete game. Can you say that now? The feeling of being drained of money constantly from battle/season passes and all sorts of micro-transactions... And now you want an extra 30 bucks just to play?... Im just, I dont know, I feel disappointed. I think if games jump to $100, the majority of them are going to flop. All the people that bought your game because maybe they will like it, wont even try it now because people second guess purchases once they reach certain thresholds... like $100. You are going to see more people go to emulators of older games, replaying games in their catalog, or just out right pirating. then in 7 years you will see an article from gaming journalist with title like, "Shivery Me Timbers: How Gaming Pirates Have Ruined the High Seas". That article will some how forget the price hike that 99% of games dont deserve.

I wonder if companies like EA and Ubisoft that have lost most of their good faith from the gaming community would benefit from choosing to keep their prices at the current level. Instead of releasing somewhat repetitive clones at a premium price, release them at a “cheaper” price (which really is just the same as current price) and market it as trying to make it them affordable. Here's the thing, and I hate even giving Rockstar this much credit considering GTA 5/Online is broken trash at the best of times... People may pay $100 for GTA6 just because it's a cultural phenomenon, but these other "execs" don't realise there could be cataclysmic events for pricing their glitchy messes at the same price and expecting the same return... I have yet to buy a game Day 1 since Tears of the Kingdom because the $10 increase already rubbed me wrong...

There is zero reason to raise the price of games. It's not our faults that these companies keep spending way too much money on game development, or as recently demonstrated, on live services that are doomed to fail. Plus, these games are stuffed to the brim with additional monetization like microtransactions and battle passes. If you think that's all gonna magically go away because games are now $100, then I've got a bridge to sell you. The only reason these companies wanna raise the price of games is because everything else has had its prices raised. But here's the thing: games aren't like other products. They're a special exception, which is a testament to how exceptional they are as a medium. They don't need to succumb to inflation because of their nature. At any rate, selling your game for $100 is a great advertisement for piracy.
