now owning my type r fk2r I have to say every journey is a pleasure, yes its raw at times but that's what the R stands for really, race cars are raw, and for a 4door hatch you can load the boot up and head of on your family holidays I love it for that reason,

I have an 2016 FK2 in Championship White (of course!) here in New Zealand (only about 10 here all private imports) and used as a daily driver. Had from brand new as 1/750 that went to Japan and was imported in a batch of 5 with delivery km (mine was 32km (had 3 years and now at 42000km trouble-free). The 'galactic' shape turns more heads that the more common FK8 people are used to seeing. Great review and spot on. The Fk2 feels more raw, less 'soft', more unique and edgy. Love it !

Sold mine about 3 years ago (mistake), now seriously considering getting another one before they start going up in value again. Everything I've had since just feels a bit Meh, all nice cars in their own right but he's correct in saying that driving a CTR FK2 is pretty unique. While the new FK8 is a slightly better car in terms of ability and with the comfort mode arguably more usable as a daily, it's way more common and not a nice car to look at due to the standard civic being pretty ugly to begin with.

This is the best and a very engaging review of the FK2 I've seen, no-nonsense and you understand what this car is about. I own an FK2 and enjoy it precisely for the reasons you've pointed out, however in the vein of challenging and rewarding the driver, it only gets about 20% as far as an S2000.

@@elaxel1469 It is, it's more like track car (poorly) disguised as a road hatch than the other way round. The on limit handling justifies it though. I'll be recording a video review of my own soon.

Great Review, I have a Daily Driver which is actually an 2005 Skoda Fabia VRS and I am looking at Buying an FK2 as a Second Car/Toy. I have owned Golf R's both Manual and DSG and although they are capable Cars and no doubt quick off the Mark they lack Driver Involvement as they do so much for the Driver Electronically. I have also owned 2 x Integra Type R DC2's and a Civic Type R EP3 in the past, Although they where never the quickest straight line performers they offered a phenomenal Driving experience and gave me some of my most memorable drives. You get out what you put in which is rewarding. That is what I am looking for again in my next Car. As you said in your review, Its still rebellious and doesn't follow the masses going for the 4WD, Have a DSG/SA Gearbox nor chase 0-60 Figures. Paper Figures and 1/4 Mile times especially on 4WD Cars don't always transfer onto the Road and in Real World Driving conditions, The Focus RS 0-60 is quicker than the FK2 because of the 4WD but I have never launched a Car 0-60 in my life. For me on the Road its more about 30-70MPH and 60-100MPH, Roll-On in Gear Acceleration where you actually need it.

Great review. I own an fk2 black edition. Also owned a meg 250 cup and focus st and the civic blows them out the water, and I love that it has marmite looks. Everything these days is far to safe and all looks the same. Great review 👍

A great video and nice to see you back...The Civic Type R has never been on my list of "wanted cars" because i just couldn`t live with the looks, but i`m with you in preferring the old school way where you had to tame, drive and respect a hot hatch or it might kill you!, i drive an Abarth 595 which while not in the same league as a Type R is still raw fun, the latest hot hatches are far too sanitized...

You obviously can’t drive, no car is hard to drive when you know how to drive, I looked at buying a FK8 but I will stick with my FK2 due to the FK8 is more of a older generation Car, the comfort mode is to help there back and with the extra assists and the exhausts look shit and sound like shit, it was also a mass produced then the FK2, it’s a shame, alright looking car but doesn’t look like a hatchback 😂😂😂😂😂😂
