One of my favorite scenes from Smallville was between Clark and his mother. He was in the process of developing x-ray vision and had asked his mom something like, "What would you do if you could see through anything?" Her wise reply was, "I'd learn to close my eyes". I thought that this was a fantastic way to teach him to wisely use his powers and to respect the privacy of others.
@wudaddy2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that was the end of the episode I think, when he'd just seen through Lana's door and saw her and Whitney hugging. Those early seasons of Clark's development were the best.

The Bible is truth. The key to understanding that is in combining personally reading the Bible with putting the teachings Jesus Christ gave us into action in your own life. Start with forgiveness, parents are easiest, they’ve loved you. That’s a very important step in understanding all this. You have to work though your inner drama and forgive. Also, make sure you at least read three books of the Bible, Genesis Mathew and one you chose yourself. Jesus Christ is the way truth and life))

Watching these interviews brings back so many memories- Smallville was one of the saving graces in my life. People always crack on about children watching TV and I understand it should never replace life. However, narrative and creative expression is so powerful. Especially as a young boy with no father, an absent mother and generations of alcoholic and toxic family members and then goes to school and hates the system and the bullying. Smallville- Supernatural-One Tree Hill were mentors, spiritual guides and so forth. I love them all!- "somebody save me" and "carry on my wayward son are anthems to my life. I found what i needed within myself to fight on and grow.

Honestly, when I saw the trailer for Smallville in 2001, I wasn't particularly excited to see it. I thought: "Superman isn't supposed to meet Lex Luthor until he's fully grown and living in Metropolis." However, after watching the Smallville pilot, I was hooked. One of the funniest observations made by a cast member was: "It's amazing how quickly all of the characters on the show 'move on', after one of the characters gets murdered." There was quite a bit of murder on Smallville -- especially in the first season. Thankfully, as Clark began to master his abilities, the death toll declined. He was actually able to "stop" meteor freaks from killing people.

It's funny to read what your initial reaction was. I'm apparently much older than you, and when I was a kid Superman and Lex were boyhood friends in the comics. It wasn't until they changed DC comics history after Crisis on Infinite Earths that they met as adults in Metropolis.

@@carlrosenzweig1867 The Superman storylines I was familiar with before the Smallville series, were The Super Friends/Justice League of America cartoons, the Christopher Reeve movies, and the Superman cartoon of 1988. For a guy who grew up watching Smallville, this missed opportunity for us all to see Tom on the big screen really kills me. Hollywood, WB sucks! No actor - MCU, DC or otherwise compares. That was my first, favorite TV series and I would project myself into the character. My grandma made me a Superman cape and gave me a T-shirt with an S on it. Years later I found myself on Lois & Clark, being saved by Superman from being crushed by an evil Terri Hatcher who crashed into a playground while driving an 18-wheeler. This just tells you how much time have passed and how many years it's been since he played Lex Luthor in Smallville, cz he aged and I could barely recognized him.. Still my most favorite show back then, and this give me so much nostalgia when I myself was still in my teenage years!! Good old days!!😅

The only real gripe i had with the story of smallville, was that Clark defeats and eliminates all of his most major villains before he is even Superman, I remember thinking at the end, when he finally put on the suit, well, what is even left for him to do as superman? What is he going to be famous for handling now?
@ThePunisherSpider3 жыл бұрын
You can see how they deal with this in Season 11. Superman has a bunch of stories left to tell.
@ImpulseKidEntertainment3 жыл бұрын
The Season 11 comics do a great job of continuing Smallville's story by giving us adventures of Tom's Clark as Superman, even allowing things that the live-action show couldn't for various reasons (meeting Batman, Wonder Woman and the Green Lantern Corps, as well as a Crisis event).
@ToadstedCroaks2 жыл бұрын
That sort of makes sense in a vacuum, or if the only exposure to superman you've had was the previous movies / adult superman comics. In the context of Superman and DC ...there are a lot of stories with a younger superman facing off against basically the same roster of villains ..as well as all of the villains that return over and over again like in all superhero stories. Smallville isn't really canon anyway, it's an offshoot story / universe, just like what happens in the comics all the time. So you can't entirely fault the writers for adding a bunch of them into the show, even if in your knowledge of the lore of superman it doesn't match up with the timeline. There are certainly some hammed in characters / plots in smallville that don't add up ( I personally hated the doomsday arc ), and some very loose use of the original material. Considering Lana was never meant to be a love interest for most of the show ( or at all ), and Lex was never suppose to make an appearance that soon in the lore ( among all the other changes they did ), you kinda have to just suspend that disbelief and ride it out for what it is.
@macgyvermind2 жыл бұрын
I understand your point. However, Doomsday and Darkseid are basically immortal, so their always going to be Superman's nemesis. And, Zod was sent to the Phantom Zone, so there's always a possibility that he'll escape.

These enemies always come back because Superman doesn't kill them or imprison them... and now as Superman he's a globally recognized person than just a blur stopping some dangers before people can react

The first two seasons of the show was "freak of the week" with a new kryptonite powered villain emerges in each episode, beats Lex to show how badass he/she is and eventually stopped by Clark. Around 3rd and 4th seasons the show finally stopped this trend and started to use more of the DC universe properties. Around 6th-7th season it should completely scrap Smallville scenes and move on to Metropolis, because around that time Clark already left to Metropolis and started to work at Daily Planet. The producers prolonged transition from Clark Kent to Superman so insanely long. I still think Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor had huge potential, but never used properly. Warner Bros should have used Tom & Michael in a rebooted Superman movie at the beginning of 2000s instead of a tv show.
@alucard6243 жыл бұрын
The show overstayed it's welcome by a few seasons too many, especially those last few seasons. God those were hard to get through as just about everyone was so ready to move on, especially Welling.

@@rmmm6725 No way, first two seasons were bad. And some of the best were the later seasons. Smallville is one of the rare shows that got better in it's later seasons. While they prolonged him using the suit. He was in metropolis. He was essentially superman. He even had an S. He just had a street clothes costume. After he worked at the paper, the Smallville scenes didn't hurt anything. Superman can go to Smallville whenever.
@TheGary1083 жыл бұрын
I know for a fact that Tom Welling didn’t want to wear the cape to begin with. He wanted to be Clark Kent, not Superman. But you do have a point that the show certainly went on too long.

I wanted to share this memory of Tom. I was in Vancouver walking to my practicum for college and I looked up from my IPOD lol and I saw him and we locked eyes and he had the most warm, genuine smile and his eyes seemed so kind. He resonated such beautiful energy. He looked almost shy to be honest 😊 I never watched smallville but I recognized him after the fact.

oh wow, what a great story. That is so sweet and very Tom. As a big Smallville fan, I've met him twice at two different conventions a few years back and the way he smiled at me was heaven lol and then when I went up to him for my second photo with him he smiled at me gave me the nicest hug and told me that I'm so sweet. It was all I could do not to melt on the floor there and then. 🥰 He's always been quite the shy person but has definitely come out of his shell more in recent years.

A good point about the honking. People NEVER honk here. What makes it more surprising, though, is that the drivers in America seem better/more conscientious overall, so in Canada there should be a lot more honking. Every time I’m driving I see people cutting each other off, driving slow in the fast lane, staying side by side on a 2 lane freeway, etc., and pretty much never does anyone honk. I think I’ve honked maybe 3 or 4 times (I’m 35), and those are when someone’s sitting for a long time after the light turns green, and once a dude stopped dead on the freeway to let someone merge, and I barely avoided a collision. I’ve been to various places down south, and always find it strange how much honking there is, and usually for no reason. Like the light will be red and the cars behind are all honking. Honking like crazy in traffic jams makes no sense, there’s no where for anyone to go, shit would drive me nuts to listen to.
@Wulfenburg3 жыл бұрын
I remember visiting Mexico many years ago and it was constant honking but not aggressive, but like to let me know where you are when they're passing and stuff. It just made sense.
@JT-gi8rx3 жыл бұрын
@@Wulfenburg yeah I don’t mind it if someone’s in my blind spot and I’m changing lanes into them and they honk, that helps avoid a collision. But usually shoulder checking is enough to not need honking.
