He's just a textbook introvert. He embraces the awkward tension. He doesn't force himself to pretend. That doesn't always end well. Look at Neil Peart. John chose comfort. Hard to exist in the world that way. It baffles extroverts.

I hope not. The older a band gets, the further they depart from their original sound. Now this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but often they lose all passion for their work. Better to end on a high note and keep the magic alive rather than dragging the music into the grave with you.

in, I think 2013, me and my family went to go see Dream Theater play in vancouver. I was about seven at the time and I remember getting a picture with all of the band memebrs and I also go a guitar pick from Petrucci. I had an absoulute blast and i hope DT can come to Vancouver again to play.

I have always wondered about, how musicians that play at a level like this - define themselves regarding that their music actual is a form of art. I mean, this guys have developed so much over the years as musicians, but I still think that "Images and Words" is still their best "art" performance, that I can find musicwise. Even the concept-albums I think, cannot capture what I find in the songs from "Images and Words". Have they lost something along the way, I wonder.

Um, they just said the timing of writing was similar to the time it took for Train of Thought. If they said the timing was similar to Octavarium would you assume a concept album? It’s nothing more than how long they were in the studio.

Not listening anything else while writing, reminded me that The Glass Prison was written after JP and Portnoy went to a Pantera concert, and looking the making of SDOIT you can see the Inspiration corner and lots of CDs, that could be good for inspiration sometimes, or sometimes not... I guess people change his way over the years as you guys are now more focused on isolate and write...

I think it is a smart approach. A common criticism of the last few Portnoy albums was riff stealing (especially when they got into Muse). That habit seems to have diminished.

14:00 this is why if they release more 10000 albuns they will always sound the same. They don´t listen music. Although MP was a huge reference on DT´s sound, his music taste and production, influenced every song.

That’s the beauty of it! No one’s ego is so large that they need to take full control. They all contribute and appreciate one another. Each of them have their moment to shine and realize the music comes first. In concert, LaBrie is allowed to be the lead singer and he doesn’t have to compete with someone who should be concentrating on the music not his antics.
