man, i'll believe it when i see it, but this would be extremely interesting. i'd imagine this would mean BV is looking for one of the few guys he'd actually feel comfortable just handing the defense to, and he's looking to actually focus hard on just being a HC at that point. fascinating option to think about, and this kind of shows a look behind the curtain in the strategy going forward, regardless of if it happens or not. big story.

on the contrary, i think this shows that BV is looking for a guy he'd be comfortable handing the defense to, because he DOESN'T want to focus that heavily on the defense again - and instead wants to focus on being the best version of HC he can be.

I really want to give BV the benefit of the doubt but it seems he's at the end of a rope heading into this next season. Whomever is the new DC, he has one year to make a significant improvement or Joe C. has to make a change at the top. That right there limits the options and attractiveness of the position with OU.

Jim Knowles or just let BV run his overly complex D and hope the O can play complimentary football. The O will have to be good because the D will give up big plays because some player won't align correctly and an assignment will be blown. If Navy had a QB who could have thrown the ball they would have scored over 40 pts on BV's half way decent defense.

BV is fighting for his job. He’s not going to bring someone in that wants to change everything. There’s nothing wrong with the defense. Either BV runs it himself, Brandon Hall, or Wes Goodwin. Hall and Goodwin already know BV’s defense and the language. Players wouldn’t have to learn new schemes and language in a critical year.

100% agree! This is a make or break year for BV and he is a control freak on the defensive side of the ball … his way or the highway! Also, the defense was the ONLY thing that looked half way decent last year. Why would you blow that up with a new system.

First off it’s a bad move from both sides. 1. Knowles is set at Ohio state with how much he’s making and the recruits he’s already got on that roster. 2. BV has spent the past three years teaching his defense to these players. And going into a make or break season why would he want to hang his HC job on a new guy/ new scheme after getting all these great players up to speed on his whole scheme. Doesn’t make any sense. Sorry

No, if he only has one season left to win or get fired then you are correct. I do think he should simplify the D some though because the younger guys and the transfer portal players haven't had the 2 + yrs needed to get his defense down pat. Now if he was promised at least 2 because of the 2025 killer schedule then why not Jim Knowles? But yes, I doubt Knowles would leave tOSU unless he knows something we don't know.

This makes no sense. Why in the world would Jim Knowles leave Ohio State to make a lateral move to a program that is well behind where OSU is now?? Again, makes ZERO sense. That would be like a coordinator from OU making a lateral move to West Virginia - oh wait….

How many of you wanted Jim Knowles before his gig at Ohio State? Yeah, that’s what I thought. If these rumors are true, Jim has got a decision to make. I guess it’s possible that he’d move OU for family reasons. I could also see him moving on if Day high tails it to the NfL. Per a poster on the OU board, Jim has also been offered the Clemson DC job. So BV and DS are fighting for the same guy. If true about Clemson, then the story about Jim’s fiancée not wanting to move out of OK is hogwash
