I love your attention to detail. I’m learning so much from your keen eye. I’ve wasted time and money on cutting out patterns that have certain details I end up not liking (ex. High necklines, long crotches, etc). Thank you for these videos and for taking the time out to point out these little details that make a big difference in the garment.

LOL. ..45 years working as an administrative assistant....this woman is on Dynasty. Thanks for the chuckles. My name is Ronda. I have been watching your channel for a while but have not said hello. I have been sewing since forever when i began with making doll clothes, wallets and purses at about the age of 5 or 6. Eghads.....that means I have been sewing in some way shape or form for over 45 years

Hi, Ronda! I'm so glad you finally introduced yourself! I'm so jealous of your long history with sewing! I wish I had found it sooner!

Why is the summer collection being released in August. I would have wanted these in the spring to sew a summer wardrobe. I’m looking for fall patterns now. I live just south of Charlotte in SC. Our mornings have been a little cool now. I will be looking for patterns with some sleeves.

Cao sleeves and that pageboy hair fairly shrieks '50s. Cloche hats were popular too.

The vintage dress with the sideseam buttons would have been early 50's (very early) before the "new look" style really hit. This dress still shows the slimmer (by comparison) skirt at the knee as required by fashion rationing in the war, and the strong "masculine" (in fashion history terms that it) shoulder that evolved to show strength while the men were at war and women ran the home front. It does read 80's in the wrong fabrication because the 80's copied the 40's

Yeah - my favourite type of video is back! I like a few of these patterns and I especially applaud them for doing such a complete size range. I have purchased the pink dress and the blue wrap dress patterns at the beginning of your review but I have yet to sew them up. I hesitate to buy any patterns these days until I see your analysis as I find it super helpful.

I would like the tie front jumpsuit with wide leg pants. The dress with the side pleats and the little drape is perfect to wear to a wedding as a guest or MOB. Without the sleeves and without the drape in a linen it would be a pretty summer dress to wear any place.

The little girls jumpsuit and the baby rompers that you showed towards the end are old Kwik sew patterns. They used to be part of the made by Ellie Mae designs line. Interesting that butterick have them now

I made the blouse with the big collar in the misses size group and it is not meant to be fitted at all. they worked some magic with the modeled photos b/c overall there is a ton of ease in the blouse and no waist shaping--it pretty much goes out in an a-line shape, similar to the way it looks in the women's version. so i would say that the women's pattern is actually more accurate in terms of representing what you're getting, though i will say that i think the women's model is wearing a size that is too big for her.

Ahhh. Good info! Why does it take someone actually making these garments to be able to tell what the design is supposed to be?!

Butterick used to be the fashionable go-to when you didn't feel like wrangling with classic couture Vogue. Their styles had beautiful designer details and perfect fit. Some of my favorite Butterick summer patterns were done by Kenzo in Paris. They'd never do these awful Home Ec. sacks.

I think the short and vest looks great on her and fits her well, what might make it better is to flip the pleat the other way so it is towards the pocket.

My favorite is the 1940,s style. I see it in many different fabrics, etc. Love the blouses and jumpsuit. Thanks for sharing.

Fell in love immediately with the retro one and already have it! AND will be making it soon, probably in a cotton shirting. I think it looks more 40s than 50s though, but I haven't tried to hunt down the original pattern yet.

Melissa Watson who also does patterns but I think they’re on McCall’s is the daughter of Palmer and pledge so if you look for her patterns that’s what you’ll find a young beautiful vibe

I think the plus size vest, shorts & pants pattern, the hand in the pocket may have shifted the fit. What do you think?

Could be. Or could be hiding more fit issues. So hard to tell!

The princess seam dolman sleeve blouse is most likely styled and presented as careerwear. I think all of the fabric they chose as a bummer too. It looks like the plus size top with the big collar is just too big for that model.
@physioontheriver73252 жыл бұрын
I like the dress with the flutter sleeves. I think you are a bit harsh on the shorts and waistcoat combo. She’s got her hand in her pocket and is standing on the other leg so that is bound to distort the crotch area. I like the dress with the side pleats. I’m 63 and I would wear it to a wedding in the right fabric or as another lady commented without the ruffle it would make a nice summer dress - not everyday but something a bit more dressy.

I really enjoy these videos, but I have to say that I've stopped buying non-indie patterns. I have a few that I've made repeatedly and some more waiting to be made up. I find that they come out well generally, but the sloppy way they're presented as new collections really grates. Why can't *all* the versions be shown on models? I'm not going to rely on drawings. And the plus size models are so few and far between. The pockets on the silky pink dress were massively uneven, and the waistcoat/vest had the same issue. It doesn't inspire confidence seeing these half-hearted efforts and I wonder if the Big 6 (? How many are we at now? 😄) ever take the time to look at the presentation on indie designer sites which is soooo much better!
