I love the Insidious films. They use atmosphere and tension and yes, are a tad campy. I could never get into Freddy or Jason. Saw or Hostel either. That's not true horror to me, but most people I speak to about horror seem to believe otherwise: No gore, no horror.

I saw the first Insidious movie in theaters for my birthday. There were 4 people on the theater at the start; me, my mom, and a couple. The couple left half way through. Me and my mom were bitching the whole time, laughed a few times when it was trying to scare us. I do not and never will comprehend how so many people liked it. I thought for sure it would bomb, but here we are.
@THEremiXFACTOR6 жыл бұрын
Mariah Osborne Horror is so bad now that almost anything can get a pass. The standards are so low that people will accept anything.
@trashcatsnark6 жыл бұрын
I know it's absolutely ridiculous. What kills me is it's almost down to a basic formula at this point. Almost all of them are ghost stories. They all have long drawn out silences that builds "tension" so jumpscares are jumpscarier. You get fake out dream sequences so they can show you scary visuals without actually affecting the "plot". Some forced in emotional drama for the character in a sad attempt to get you to root for them. Shit lighting, cause it's cheap and darkness is inherently scary. Wrap it up with the ghost jumping out and making a scary face at the camera. Also, the thing that kills me is fucking Blumhouse. I know studio and producers aren't that creatively involved and mostly just throw money at creators, but money is a huge part of what gets things made. Blumhouse gave us Get Out and The Gift, two amazing modern mainstream horror movies. They also gave us all of Insidious, Sinister, Unfriended, and while not horror I feel the need to mention the shit heap that was the Jem and The Holograms movie. They're clearly in touch with good writers, but they continuously throw their money at garbage. Ugh, sorry, needed to vent.
@THEremiXFACTOR6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know. The people who make these films must be laughing, because they know the audience will accept pretty much anything these days. General audiences seem to expect all this cheap, unintelligent crap when they go to see a horror film now. People will always go out to see a horror movie (if it is marketed well) because people enjoy the thrill of being scared. Unfortunately being scared now amounts to a 'creepy' looking figure jumping out of nowhere, accompanied by a loud screeching noise on the soundtrack. Of course there were lots of trashy horror movies made in the past, but there were also smart, classy, genuinely unnerving ones. Oh well...
@thereccher87466 жыл бұрын

I've learned to just ignore AJ's opinion on films. He likes ALOT of movies I find to be utter shit (Suicide Squad for instance). I generally trust his game reviews but I don't really thin he knows what he is talking about when it comes to movies. These guys (at least Korey and Martin) have been reviewing films for more than a decade so they know what they are talking about. If they hate a film as a group, I won't waste my time on it.

I must agree with Matt here. First, AJ is only doing reviews for the clicks/$$$. The one thing I noticed and actually angers me about AJ is that. If you watch what and how he reviews, it is quite often what Double Toasted has reviewed and gave their opinion on. I really truly feels that he watches DT only to rip their views and opinions so he can then make his click bait. AJ should stick to games ... When he started to do movie reviews I lost respect for his goal, he strayed for the $$$.

I've always said this about the insidious series. It's more fun than it is scary. Sure it's definitely scary, but the fun aspect that is present in these movies outweighs the horror aspect that they're trying to present. It definitely worked a lot of people loved this series. If you really want a super scary (Amazing) horror film, check out hereditary. It came out last year but I saw it for the first time a couple of days ago. It was without a doubt the scariest film I've seen in the past 7 years and not jump scary at all. There were a couple here and there but they didn't really jump out at you, and you had to actually pay attention to notice them. It was very symbolically scary. Please if you haven't seen it and you love horror then go now and buy it, or rent it!

Possible Spoilers: I enjoyed this one. I'd seen the review scores going in, so perhaps my expectations were lower as a result, but I genuinely had a good experience with this film. That being said, it was a very slow burn horror, there wasn't too much happening, but I don't mind slow burn horror, I prefer it to having unnecessary jump scares every few minutes and it's a franchise where I find the lore interesting to delve into. The main demon tho of the film - 'key face' - didn't really have a satisfying pay off, they were just some generic demon?, and the whole trying to open all the doors thing, was kind of explained, the doors being to different areas of the Further, but I felt like it could have been developed more, was it searching for a specific door to free someone for instance? I also felt the reasoning behind why both Elise's father and this other guy were chaining up women could have been better explored, were they trying to appease the demon? It seems like a strange co-incidence they would have the same MO. It was alluded to that the Demon was influencing them somehow, but again I wish they'd have expanded on this more in the film. The main question I still have, and the one I wan't answered in a sequel (at this point I want a proper sequel to the second in the series, no more prequels), who is the 'Lipstick Face Demon'? I hope we get an actual answer.explanation on this after so much build up over the series - not just that he's another generic demon and that's it. I have a few theories. Theory 1) It's the brother after he dies - we've seen time works different for ghosts/demons/'The Further' so this might explain why the 'Lipstick Demon' was shown next to her brother as a little boy in the bed in this film. Theory 2) It's Elise herself, but in the future - again this would play into the whole time travel thing and Elise was wearing a lot of red during this film. Theory 3) It's the guy who the assistant killed (the psycho who had that woman chained up in his basement) - this could lead to a confrontation between the two in a sequel - this would seem strange as he only just died, but then time doesn't work that way in 'The Further' so perhaps its still possible - remember he did have a red bible he was attached to! - lol basically anything of red makes me think 'Lipstick Face Demon' at this point! lol I hope this series gets at least ONE more, if for nothing else, then just to finally wrap up this 'Lipstick Face Demon' arc! The first was great till the end... but the way every video happened was different at the time and I loved it. My favorite horror movies now are the small production, once in a lifetime creative shit you find like I do when you watch literally nothing but horror movies. When I watch anything, it's horror! The Houses October Built was good... I have a few others I've seen recently that I think have potential! But Insidious the 1st one up until the ending where it explained what is happening was truly different and creative. Of course in it's day... I haven't seen any since the first because they can't play off the kids plot and be worth a fuck.
