JEM - The Lubavitcher Rebbe

If someone is autistic, it doesn't mean that they don't relate to anyone. They might not relate well to people, but to G-d they relate as well as everyone else, and even more. Place a charity box in his room. This will benefit him, and he'll remind his visitors that they must give charity."

i am autistic. this is wonderful to hear. the religion i was raised in told me horrible things about autistic people and it caused me very much pain. i have been a Noahide for a few years now and i see once again the Torah comes correct with love and truth. Baruch Hashem !!! autism is a topic that i would like to hear addressed more often in shiur, both for autistic people who follow Torah and for the general public so they will understand autistic people with more acuity.

Absolutely. My eldest brother lives with autism, but had his bar mitzvah and says the kiddush with great kavannah. He lives in a wonderful group home in Borough Park. He has always had a very strong relationship with G-d. It is so beautiful how the Rebbe always emphasizes charity.

please do not use the name of nazi scientist(asperger) who would keep high functioning children on the spectrum to study, while sending low functioning autistic children to their deaths. just say high functioning on the autistic spectrum. spread this fact, as to not honor that nazi.

Those are beautiful and wise words from that Rabbi. I think they were very encouraging to the father. I have young adult son who is on the higher-functioning autism scale (Asperger's). I worry about him making his way in the world. Prayers help ease my worries.🙂🤲🏽❤️☝🏽Peace

I love Judaism's approach on autism. Judaism is the only religion I, as an autist, have felt truly at home. I have not been ignored, gaslighted, condescended upon, objectified, or anything of that nature. I love Jews and I love Judaism!

This is actually a common misconception about autistics (that they don't relate to others). It's part of why so many girls are diagnosed late or not at all -- they learn to mimic social responses early on. My own autistic daughter I described to her Kindergarten teacher as "The Cruise Director".

This was in the mid eighties. And the father obviously had a son with severe autism. Otherwise his son wouldn’t have lived in a special facility. The rebbe was like a walking math machine on almost any subject. His thinking outpaced the thinking of many others. There are many people with autism who function reasonably well without any professional support. They are usually diagnosed as adults. And only if they take the initiative to seek help for whichever issue they deal with. I didn’t know I had a form of autism until I took the initiative for some therapeutic help in my early thirties. Finished university with above average grades. Never got in trouble with the law or other people. I got my professional diagnosis (to my slight surprise, as this wasn’t the initial focus of the therapeutic help) at 33. I don’t know you, but since you say you can relate to other people, I reckon your type of autism is also less severe than that of the particularly referred son in the video. All the best.

The main thing people should take away from this is, to always give charity, because it is a cleansing of our sins. Not those autistic people, but us regular people.
