I started on PC but until I can start making some more upgrades to it, capturing gameplay, webcam and actually running the game are just way to taxing so I swapped to the series x. Imagine what you would be able to do with 2022 tech if they ever got to go back

I remember seeing the trailer for it back when it was coming out but didn't feel like it was gonna be a game I would like at the time, not knowing it was even made by insomniac. But seeing this video it seems like it's 100% up my alley, definitely putting it on my list of games I need to play. Definitely sold me on the game with the video so great job dude!

Full disclosure, I’ve tried playing this game twice in the past and it never clicked for me. I liked elements but couldn’t see the forest through the trees and how it all was trying to come together. The missing link I think was Spider-Man, playing it after that made me appreciate this way more and understand what it was trying to do far better. Hope you can get around to it at some point Ian! Insomniac still owns the IP for Sunset Overdrive. I still have hopes we will get a Sequel for PS5 with a port of the first game! We are coming up on the 10th Anniversary this October. I got it with Gold years ago and when I played it I fell in love with Insomniac and it made me get a Playstation.

i find new things in this game every time i come back to it. the city is also full of details everywhere. there are sloped rooftops that make you do the teaser trailer slide animation, i have only found one so far, but it exists. it's useless tho lol

I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH. its a game thats just "Go fuck around, have fun, feel cool while travelling" As for clothing? I love the sheer amount of outfits you could combine. currently, my character is the buff gentleman who wears pink and blue only. Hes got wings, horns, goggles and with a kangaroo codpiece to finish. 🎉

Sunset Overdrive was my first Insomniac game, incredibly silly but fun. This game reminds me of Dunkey's principle, 'a short but fun game' like Tony Hawk Pro Skater. Wonderful music, fun gameplay, stupid humour, and fun writing. Incredible work. Great video too!

Sunset overdrive is one of those games that teeters the over the top line so precisely, that it sometimes feels cringe and too much, and yet i am second guessing myself if its too much or not, and i can never make up my mind about it I absolutely love this game to bits and 100%-ing the game with every achievement was a joy from top to bottom and there was never a single point where it stopped being fun.

Yea ultimately I find my self second guessing my self. I plan to make a video my self on the game. I think the problem is that it ultimately is whacky and colorful but deep as a puddle! It’s a fun enjoyable experience but doesn’t really offer more in terms of writing and in gameplay!

@@B.Love88 I mean, that depends on which question you're asking. I did 'enjoy' seeing them talk and act during cutscenes, it was fun, but they are beyond one dimensional. They dont have personalities, but they are just fun to have on screen They are more like fun VFX, than actual characters, and i think thats fine. If a game is not going to tell an actual story (beyond just bulletpoints that need to be strung together to facilitate progress), then its fine to have these tropes, as long as they are done in a tasteful and fun way. Tasteful, as in not mocking them I didnt 'enjoy' them in a, i relate to them way, since, again they are not really characters. Its hard to relate with a bunch of fancy visual effects.

Honestly, this game is so much fun that i too, had only managed to upgrade like 4 of my weapons by the end of the game rolled around and i just grinded the rest and i enjoyed every moment of it, thats just how much fun this game is, that i spent 20 or something hours purely traversing the city and slaughtering enemies mercilessly for no reason

Sunset Overdrive is a game that I've always wanted to try out but couldn't due to having only a PS4, maybe someday. One thing that this video did however is rekindle my desire for a new Resistance, I absolutely loved that series and think it could've evolved a lot more.

If you have a computer, you should check the minimum pc specs. Since it’s on game pass, you can subscribe to it for a month (and they do first month free a lot) and play it that way if you can! I remember the first one being very grey and not vibing with it that much, and couldn’t even tell you if I played the other 2. Definitely planning on revisiting at some point down the track though! I just put a poll up with it as an option for what I tackle next, so feel free to sub if you haven’t so you can see it and vote!

The Sunset Overdrive wasn’t just a willy nilly exclusive deal with Xbox. Insomniac wanted to make their own game without losing the IP to the publisher. Sony always kept Insomniac close and helped fund the games, but the company didn’t acquire Insomniac & Insomniac didn’t own the popular IPs created by the incredibly talented studio.

Oh yeah I get that, Willy Nilly was tongue in cheek, insomniac got one of the best deals to do it and retain the IP despite making it exclusive for Microsoft. Cut to now though and Sony has acquired the studio and their IP including sunset overdrive, which according to them is not a priority anymore. Also since Microsoft owns the original game (despite not owning the actual IP) you would imagine it would be unlikely to see Sony develop a sequel for an xbox exclusive game without just trying to reboot it (like saints row for example)

I just thought it should be pointed out so as not to create a false narrative. I played this recently and trust me it's a great game with some flaws, but you'll enjoy everything and anything in it. This is one of those games that takes a lot of effort and perfect timing to make. I wouldn't even expect a sequel in 10 years time, but when it comes, I'll be happy to play it. Insomniac Rules.

I maxed at a lot of my weapons Dirty Hary and record gun before I even did my first amp protection. Found it was the best way to make it easy against the first Herker with no deaths. If you get the Overachiever amp you just wack it on a gun that you dont use much like the Dude etc it will start levelling up. With a bit of grinding it makes the game a lot easier especially before you pick up the spread your love amp. It really depends on how you want to play the game Ive put over 200 hours into it and still find the gameplay and humour refreshing.

Sunset Overdrive is CRIMINALLY underrated. It's so simple in it being an "awesomepocalypse" kind of setting but the game is moved forward so fucking nicely by the characters and the comedy, especially the Player, I love them so much and customizing them is always a blast. I love Insomniac Games, Ratchet & Clank was for a long time my number 1 series on the ps2 and I've replayed every single one of their games (up to just before the ps3 era) a thousand times. To me it's insane how Spiderman got more recognition than this game; it's true that it's probably the most famous superhero ever created, but I thought the whole thing was so mediocre and the gameplay loop so boring and repetitive, the story was meh and it was mostly carried by the characters being themselves (in the sense of "oh yeah spiderman is so cool and all his enemies as well"). On the other hand Sunset Overdrive is such a hidden gem, practically never takes itself seriously, has an amazing gameplay loop by having you grind, jump and bounce all over the city while shooting around with crazy ass weapons and letting you play even without ever touching the ground sometimes, and the story while being pretty simple and stereotypical has the Player and even other characters breaking the fuck out of the fourth wall regarding every aspect of videogames, including the story itself (which is something i would love to see done more in games). Overall, I love this game so so much and I will always remember it so dearly while waiting for (hopefully) a sequel, it totally deserves one. P.S. One more thing for people who're playing on PC: be careful with your savestates! The port of the game was outsourced to another team that made kind of a mess honestly, the game will always tell you there's a corrupted save file even when you boot up the game for the first time. It has to do with Steam's cloud system and while many people on forums suggest to delete the autocloud.vdf file in the save folder, it never worked for me and to this day I still have one of my 5 save slots labeled as "corrupted". Don't worry tho, I only suggest you to make always save in the other 4 slots and back up your states VERY OFTEN. The first time I played the game I got all my saves corrupted somehow while I was at around 80% of the game, it sucked, but I got back into it and replayed it all over again because I really wanted to finish it. So good luck to you all with your saves and enjoy jumping and making cheeky jokes in Sunset City :)

Well said, this game seriously doesn't get the love or recognition it deserves. While I thought Spiderman for me was absolutely brilliant, I thought another part of it was being an xbox exclusive at a time when not only xbox wasn't going to crash hot, but also when the loyal xbox audience didn't really know who insomniac was. Despite coming back to Sony and now Sony owning the actual IP, a sequel isn't looking great but never say never. Its a tricky one, they've come out and said after the aquisition that Sunset Overdrive isn't a priority for them and with Spiderman, Ratchet and Wolverine on Insomniacs list it makes sense. The other thing is that while they own the IP, it is microsoft that still own the original game, meaning that it is up to Microsoft if that would ever make its way to a playstation console. If it doesn't, then Sony would either have to make a sequel to a microsoft exclusive (which seems unlikely) or reboot the whole thing similar to the upcoming Saints Row reboot. Hopefully we get the latter

@@HowGoodGames First of all, you just got a new sub :) Second, I understand your point of view of Spiderman being brilliant, I totally get that my point of view is going to be much different then what most people feel about the game and that's okay, what matters is pushing Insomniac to do their best because I know they can. And yes, I agree that the environment the game came out in was not really working in the game's favor. Still, I hope so much too that the game gets at least a reboot that hopefully spawns a series of wacky games like Saints Row used to be (I think the games have been on a downward spiral starting from the third). In the meantime all we can do is show the team our support with their upcoming games and show Sony how much people love Sunset Overdrive and want to see more of it.

As I said, SO doesn't take itself seriously as a whole, and it would be an amazing playground for Insomniac to iron out the problems from the original game (like the low incentive/slow leveling gunplay) by testing around with their newfound skills and putting up a banger of a game with an addicting gameplay, I totally imagine it being a reality because they're absolutely capable of doing so. We'll just have to wait and see what happens

Sunset overdrive is the most Ratchet and clank game since the PS2 era. Atleast until Rift apart. I dont hate the future trilogy, but, it didnt really stand out, and it didnt really feel like a ratchet and clank game, this does. We dont talk about the reboot.

Yeah, I would imagine it would definitely make the aiming better, but I found the slow mo when grinding was never really that slow, like it was negligible at best. Weapon wheel slow mo for combat is a big brain strat though, good stuff

hahaha honestly such a good way to describe the look. I definitely agree, the hair and character faces leave a bit to be desired, but I had so much fun with the outfits, probably the most fun I've had since Watch Dogs 2 tbh just interms of the amount of expression and bonkers stuff you can do with it. If the rest of the art style doesn't do it for you then fair enough, otherwise if its just the character models, I'd recommend thinking of your main character as no more than a blank mannequin and its all about dressing it up

1) they realized that ratchet 3 was heading in a 3rd person shooter direction so they had to change it 2) ratchet gladiator, amazing 3rd person shooter 3) sunset overdrive, elevated to the next level, peak insomniac 4) duuuhhhrhrr lets go back to ratchet and clank cinematic game and hire """professional""" writers hurrdrurr lmao they have one effed up big time. i expect ratchet to NEVER find the lombaxes, because it means they can extend its life for as long as they want and milk it for more money. the OG ratchet had no such ending/conclusion so it might as well have ended with gladiator. the new one though, people will keep buying no matter how BAD the game is because they want to see a conclusion
