@xyPERSON it was extremely trashy. Extreme violence for no rational reason (Reacher is all about reason, guns come 2nd) and all that violence happened while there was barely any cops around. In New York City!

@@TRivera13 It is factualy of lower quality. More shortcuts, less work on the image. It was more stereotypes and clichés, more predictable, and it was acted all clichés as well, but mostly due to very bad writing, either character writing or script... less subtleties (not that first one had many subtleties, so that says a lot). The second season was less about showing something interesting and more about jingling clinky keys in front of an ADHD audience to keep their attention, taking people for kids who need entertainment, instead of adults who are able to think. This is a very generalized trend.

@ComradeOgilvy1984 2 ай бұрын
@@shep68 On one hand, you are right. On the other hand, they literally picked up a man for murder for no other reason than he was a stranger spotted in the same county as a crime. Their authority to even bring him in for questioning is dodgy, and they might recognize that it is in their interests to be a little polite with someone who is cooperative enough, before he lawyers up. Of course, what makes this work in the scene is we know the deputies might well bring in 10 guys to do what they please, and we also know that Reacher might break several bones of the deputies before they subdue him. It is the uncertainty that makes the line work.

@NFawc, having read all of the Jack Reacher books, I can present a solid theory about why he is bigger. In the third novel, Tripwire, Reacher has a job in Key West hand digging pools. This activity makes him even more of a specimen than he already was. Remember, Reacher never exercises.

Having read all the books ( as I’m sure you all have too), and being a gym bunny myself, I can tell you Reacher can’t have the body described in the books without working out. Also given his lifestyle , the erratic eating habits and bad food, his body would never be jacked. There certainly are rare specimens in the world that have massive bodies without too much effort, but Reacher ain’t one of them. The books describe his incredible physique which , imho can only come from proper training and nutrition. . Lee Child is Reacher’s biggest fan and it show…

I knew a guy in uni. He was from West Africa, can’t remember exactly from where. He was something like 6ft 3 and 300lbs. Not fat either. Pure muscle and just absolutely massive. I never crossed path with anyone before or after that that was this big. He never exercised. It was 100% genetics. So I guys like that do exist, they are just extreme rarities. I met quite a few guys though in hockey who were in n the 6ft4 220lbs range without much exercice apart from the game. That’s less extreme but still freakish as well. I don’t know how big is in the books but he probably could be that big without much exercice if he was one of these outliers.

I consider myself a reasonable man with a modicum of common sense. I accept that we have to accept immigrants into the country, but not without control. my own grandfather was of Scicilian stock. However the present invasion of immigrants is clearly uncontrolled. The government has little or no idea from which land they have come from and what their intention or hopes are. Who are genuine refugees and who have come with alterior motives

Never heard of the show. Is the "Reacher" someone special or is he an alien? He seems kind of odd but I can't tell you why.

Reacher is the man's last name. The character in the show is based on a series of novels. He's "special" in the sense that he is an extremely beefy physical specimen, insightful investigator, and adept survivalist. But the character isn't supernatural or alien in any way.

After reading The Midnight Line, we need a bigger person than Alan Ritchson for REACHER. Find someone personal that is that person. I like Ritchson but he is not big enough. Reacher never worked out so we are not looking at oversized muscle-big. Really, can you describe Ritchson as "bigfoot" with the hands the size of dinner plates?

Is it toxic masculinity?
@sabinrawr
@sabinrawr 2 ай бұрын
I don't think so. It might be toxic if he was using his gym muscles as some sort of Ersatz masculinity, but he doesn't. It's not written that way. He's gigantic and beefy af, but it's not about that. He's a skilled investigator and accomplished fighter, and the muscles just sort of accentuate the intimidation factor. Personally, I applaud the actor for having the physicality to fill the role true to how it was written in the novels. Nothing toxic about it!

Tom Cruise is an amazing actor, and honestly I didn't hate his performance in this role. But you're 100% right, he just doesn't have the physicality for this role. Alan Ritchson NAILS it!

Way to miss the point. If the author described the character in a certain way, film and television adaptations should depict the character in the same way. No one ever said this was a real person. For example, the Tom Cruise version was entirely wrong specifically because the actor looked nothing like the way the character was described in the books. As for him being physically stronger in the second series, I don't really think it mattered all that much. People sometimes get more fit than before. Sometimes less. It happens. It's not an issue.

@sabinrawr 2 ай бұрын
Adding to the above comment... Yes, he's bigger and stronger in S2. A lot of people don't like this because they think it's unrealistic, steroid-based, or whatever. But the reality is that this sort of physicality is what the author of the novels described. In the books, there are some female love interests who are really into his insane physique, but the other 97% of the stories don't focus on that. His size, strength, and skill are plot points to help the reader visualize what a monster this guy is. Alan Ritchson does an amazing job of emulating the story, whether or not we think it's sexy. Most people don't fantasize about The Hulk, for example, even though that character is also unrealistically muscular.

Alan should’ve laid off the steroids, he looked 10-15 older in season 2. In season 1 he looked big but athletic in s2 he just roided out bulky.
@sabinrawr
@sabinrawr 2 ай бұрын
Bulky, yes. But not roided out. Steroid abusers often have an unnatural distended appearance, especially in the abdomen and hips. Alan's physique is definitely gym-grown bulkiness. I know that many people aren't fans of that physique. Chris Hemsworth's wife famously opined that his physique during/after _Ragnarok_ was "just too much", and that's fair enough. But what isn't fair is to assume that extreme beefiness implies drug abuse. More importantly, if you've read any of the _Reacher_ novels, Alan Ritchson in S2 is basically exactly as described: 6'4" (ish) and 250+ lbs (193cm, 113kg), solid muscle. It's totally understandable if people don't find this build attractive, but it IS 1. accurate; 2. strong; 3. intimidating; and 4. great for this role.

@@AS-pug I didn't say that either. I just said he doesn't look roided out. And I know from first-hand experience that it's very possible to achieve that size naturally, especially when it's literally your full time job. I'm not saying he's natural, and I'm not saying he used steroids. I'm just saying that it's very naive and kinda stupid to jump to that assumption.
@AS-pug

@ first of all, you can see he took steroids, not just the size, look at his face. Typical sign of roids. Secondly he admitted to using TRT. But he’s obviously taken other stuff. Look how much older he looks in the face between season 1 and 2. Looks 10 years older. That’s sign of roid use.
